They play that clip at the Ranger games all the time to get the bubbas riled up. What I find interesting is that Robin Ventura, who's lip Ryan bloodied, had a reputation for being one of the nicest guys in baseball. Very charitable and giving of his time to various causes. I don't know about anyone else, but if someone threw a 90MPH fastball at me (most likely intentionally), I'd charge the damn mound too.

And I think Ryan just got lucky that Ventura didn't get the headlock first. :beat:

I also think it's kind of amusing that they never play the video of Dave Winfield making short work of Ryan on the mound after he tried to hit him with a pitch in 1980.

Dave Winfield was 6'6" & 220. Ryan wasn't.

All the more reason not to hit him with a pitch.

When you are 6'6" and weigh 220 lbs, you can charge the mound no matter who is pitching.

Yep, three to the top of his head, one to his nose and one to his left jaw.

I still love the hell out of Nolan Ryan. He was a man's player. He did it clean, he had a career that spanned over a great deal of time, and he didn't wait until he was pushed out of the league. He left with class, dignity and was still producing.

Oh I agree...don't get me wrong...I'm a Nolan Ryan fan as well. And I get a kick out of the video too. I just think that Robin Ventura got kinda punked on that one and was less than deserving of it.
