1000 amp stick welding
The welding rod is 4' long and weighs 18 lbs. The stinger ( welding rod holder ) weighs 40 lbs and they weld while standing on a ladder.
For the folks who don't weld, an arc welder at home or at the shop would be set at about 90 amps for a 3/32" welding rod and around 125 amps for a 1/8" rod. This rod , without the flux is about the size of a dime. |
That's some serious welding amperage right there.

One of our customers (SLB) does some large electrode welding but not that big. My mechanics tell me it is way louder than they expected.
|
Surprised it didn't just blow a hole in that 1" plate. :funny:
Obviously this was just a demonstration of the electrode, not of an application that would actually call for it. |
Damn I had no idea they had electrodes that large!
