Houston...anyone got a shitbox they want to loan/rent to GWiz?

She'll be in Houston from May to August. Looking a vehicle options, beyond bringing her BRZ out there.

Looked at rentals, looked at towing the BRZ, ...

Right now, driving with her in the BRZ and getting a round trip from Houston to Fort Myers, returning in August seems to be the best alternative so far. Even considering buying another NA Miata in Houston, letting her drive it, and then having another parts car.

Thoughts?

get a ticket for the AOC train company, unlimited use.

Already sent her a message, my garage is her garage. Unfortunately I don’t have a spare car...ship something out here maybe? However I can help I’ll do what I can.

That's a one day drive. My friend used to drive from Naples, FL near Alligator Alley, to Houston in one day. Occasionally, he'd stop in Biloxi and make it a two day trip. I suspect he just wanted to go to the casino, but whatever.

+1 for drive.

I don't have a car to lend long term, but I could offer one for a weekend or so while she is scoping out a place to live. Houston has corporate apartments that can be rented short term.

Buncha Miatas on CL in that area.

I knew that was coming, but the joke had to be done, and somebody had to play the straight man.

That's not a bad little car. Paying 1,600-1,800 to ship a car both ways seems pretty silly when you can pick up a car for 2400.

why can't she just drive it there? per the experts, easy 2 day trip.

gas, meals, hotels - way less than the shipping cost. and then she has it with her there?

We're pretty much coming to that conclusion, she just doesn't want to put the miles on Toothless.

who is she saving it for? drive it, maintain it, and a car will last a long, long time.

Mrs. DAB's subaru is a 2002 model. still runs great. yeah, we've done some maintenance to it over time, but that's far cheaper than buying one new when some part wears out.

Furnished housing, including breakfast is supplied. As is transportation to and from the job, which is actually required. She just wants freedom for the weekend for grocery shopping and such.

And if she were to go to Houston from Atlanta and return it would be less than 1,600 miles round trip plus her mileage in/around Houston.

Certainly easier than Atlanta to Ft Myers to Houston to Ft Myers to Atlanta. Just rent a self-storage locker for a few months so that she can store her stuff close to the campus rather than taking it home so that Mom can clean it for her. That's almost an 3,500 miles round trip.

C5SilverBullet 04-13-2019 1:48pm

I may be able to help. Is the car staying in Houston?
