C4 Coilovers Modification (Front & Rears)
First I'd like to thank Brian Cunningham, he had helped me since day 1 of the LT4 Project.
The Vette is a bit higher than before (the spoiler does not scrapes the driveway :D). I set the rebound and compression using Van Steel's settings and went for a drive today. The Vette feel bumpier on the local streets but once I got to drive by the mountains I was hooked:smiliedrool:. WOW, the Vette is more responsive, moves better and it sticks to the curves in a way that I've never experienced on any Vette. This is an expensive upgrade that requires patience. Patience to relocate the front sway bar, to relocate the upper shock mount and patience to find out again that "NOTHING IS BOLT-ON" . BUT, It is an expensive upgrade that I highly recommend if you like to DRIVE your Vette:thumbs:. If you would go for it and live in SoCal, send me a PM or e-mail me. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...y/Wrench-2.gif I started last week and all was going smooth but... Here it goes:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: Jack up the Vette Remove Tires Place jacks on the LCA. This is to allow the removal of the shocks and sway bar. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...CoiloversF.jpg Loose the sway bar http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF1.jpg Remove shocks http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF2.jpg Loose the lower ball-joint http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF3.jpg I placed a small jack on the lug nut just to hold the hub and the UPC high enough for the monospring to be removed. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF4.jpg Remove/slide the monospring. If you have an OEM you will not be able to do this. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF5.jpg Shocks and monospring ready for the future (a 3rd C4 :D). http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF6.jpg Ready for Coilovers. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF7.jpg If it wasn't for the sway bar relocation BS. It was going to be that easy but... http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF8.jpg A week after I PM few guys, read old threads, called Van Steel and made a final decision today at 1:00 PM. 3/8" holes http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...oiloversF9.jpg This was maybe, the big call. I did not want to make an ugly cut (sorry:cool:) and decided to make a hole/circle to insert the nut and locking washers. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF10.jpg That is how it looks inside. I was wrong, there is no plate. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF11.jpg It is easier than it looks...trust me.:yesnod: http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF12.jpg At ride height... http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF13.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF14.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF15.jpg http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF16.jpg All components were hand tight and will be torqued to specs next day. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF17.jpg |
Here I go. Got the right hardware
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF19.jpg Believe it or not all these for $2.94 http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF20.jpg Coat of paint- http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF21.jpg Dave suggested a cap but I could not find one and it will be covered by the inner fender. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/j...iloversF22.jpg |
Coil over modification pics
Hello
I viewed your post for C4 coil over modification in the past and saw the pics you posted of the process. I returned to vette barn and smoking vette to view them again but they can't be found. I was hoping you could post them again or let me know if they are available at all. I would like to refer to them again, if possible. I tried a coil over modification using the van steel c4 coil over kit and instructions but they are not working out. I am running into the same problem you had and will need to move the sway bar and mounts forward to gain enough clearance between the sway bar links and coil over shocks. I would appreciate any help you could provide. |
