I imagine ours is a more refined procuct, more carefully distilled but the word origins seems to be from where it originated in history. By that logic there must have been some French influences in the Islands past.:seasix:

Rum - was British
Rhum - was French
Ron - was Spanish or Portuguese

There is a lot of influence from Spain here, maybe that is how they spelled it? :island14:

I know the difference between the tall bottle and the short ones. :datawiz:

The tall one we call a long neck is 750 ML and cost 90 peso ($2.14) at a sari sari store, the short ones are 375 ML and cost 45 peso ($1.07)

And if you buy a whole case of the short ones it's even cheeper :D

I was just wondering because rum mixed with fake lemon-flavored tea sounds, uh, um, disgusting.

So it's just your basic sugar cane dark rum, around 80 proof? Sounds like it.

Yup... 80 proof sugar cane dark, but I think the cheap Jamaican Rum I drank the last time I was in the States was a bit stronger.
