Nice looking Fusary SS.

meh, all the cars are the same under the paint. what used to be called innovation is now called cheating.

ConstantChange 12-11-2013 7:32pm

I'm not a fan. I'd like to see them retire the number 3 from NASCAR.

Other folks ran the 3 before Sr did. I will only have a problem with a completely black number 3 :yesnod:

Agreed, with 43 cars running each week and at most 50-60 trying to make the field any particular week, there's no need to ever run the 3 again

You might have 50 for Daytona, but after that maybe 45 some weeks.

Too many guaranteed spots.

RED-85-Z51 12-11-2013 10:35pm

He only wants the number for the legend behind it...I hope the God he Fails every week until he changes numbers. He needs his own legend to build on, not mooch off someone elses.

What about all the people..hundreds of Thousands, that proudly wear #3 Tattoos, banner,s flags, paint schemes, etc...in memory of The Intimidator? I think its very alienating to the fans..and will only push people away.

DAB 12-11-2013 10:38pm

Dunno, they've already screwed it up so much. Their base long ago left, and now they market to yuppies. Who are fickle and leave when it gets boring.

He has always run #3, because it was his grandpa's number (Richard Childress).

He raced for 12 seasons...'69-'76 in the #96....THEN changed to #3 until he retired in 81, as a tribute to Junior Johnson.

He posted no Poles..No Wins, and 76 Top 10's.....

Dillon picked #3 for one reason and one reason only..and thats pretty obvious.

From the picture above, it won't be completely black but mostly black. Here is his Nationwide Series car that he won the 2013 championship with...

However, I can see were it might be yellow in some races because of the following...

For whatever reason, I always thought that RCR owned the rights to the #3. I guess I was misinformed as I found the following...

Quote:

NASCAR owns and assigns car numbers and licenses them to teams on an annual basis. Teams do not own the numbers. Teams submit to NASCAR requests for a car number. Depending upon availability, that number is issued via an owner’s license, which is good for a year. Generally, if a team has been using a number that number is re-issued to the same team. If a team relinquishes a number, it reverts back to NASCAR.

So, essentially, RCR must've been requesting, receiving approval and leasing that number since the death of Sr.

But yeah, as RED said above, he changed his car number to 3 from 96 as a tribute to Junior Johnson.

Oh, and Austin Dillon looks like an idiot in that stupid cowboy hat with a fire suit on. :funny:

nascar: if we get press off of something, that's good. whatever it is. more press about us equals more $$ in our coffers at the end of the day.

RED-85-Z51 12-12-2013 11:40am

Even more proof that he is looking to ride coattails?...same size, font, similar color sceme...

What a fukcin prick.

The only #3 ill recognize...

You do realize that in addition to being a driver, Richard Childress also happened to be the owner of the #3 BEFORE Dale Sr. ever got in it, right?

Uhhhhh yea. It is pretty obvious that he wants to use HIS family number. The fact that you attribute it to Earnhardt as opposed to Childress is irrelevant.

Would there be outrage if it was Dale Jr, in it? Austin Dillon is Richard Childress' grandson. That number means every bit as much to the Childress family as it does the Earnhardt family... if not more. Proir to driving for RCR, Earnhardt drove both the 8 or 15 (hence the numbers of the DEI cars when he started it). It was only when he started driving for RCR that the 3 came into play. The number was because of Richard Childress, NOT because of Dale Earnhardt.

As someone who grew up as an Earnhardt fan, I see absolutely no problem with it.

Since the number 3 wasn't actually used by RCR, it couldn't technically belong to them according to the NASCAR bylaws. Contrary to the "normal" procedures, it was understood between NASCAR, RCR, and pretty much everybody else on the planet that nobody other than him would get the #3 without his blessing.

Again, you do realize that RCR has used that same scheme and number across just about every form of racing from late models to trucks in the decade since Earnhardt died, right? The only place it WASN'T used was in the Cup series.

Even while Earnhardt was alive, the black 3 wasn't only attributed to him. It was used in EVERY series that RCR had a car. On top of Austin and Ty Dillon... Mike Skinner, Jay Sauter, and many others have driven a black #3 for RCR.

Ricky Rudd drove the 3 for RCR before Earnhardt ever did...

Yep.

I'm totally for it. Big E would not have accomplished what he had without Childress. It's Richard's grandson, and even Little E has given his support for the decision. I don't see the problem.
