If I know in advance that valet is required, we take the suv.
|
I have only use valet once in my life and it was in a NYC garage with a rental car because there was no other way of parking it anywhere else.
I grew up driving stick.. |
I love driving manual plus it's the best theft deterrent as most Americans don't know how to drive it.
I'm not a fan of valet service & never allowed any valet to drive my stick-shift cars. |
I'm past wanting a manual transmission in a car or truck. I very well may have a tractor in the future with a manual and clutch, as long as it has the shuttle shift.
And I don't do valet parking. Nope. Not gonna happen. |
Went to a cousins wedding in my C5 6 speed and when I pulled up valet said....park it over there
|

More than a couple of times I've been turned down valet service or had to park my car myself in the valet section.
My question is how the heck do you even get hired as a valet if you can't drive a stick? :driving: |

If I know in advance valet is required, I won’t go there. |
I picked up stick driving at about age 11-12 back in the 1950s. Most stick cars back then had a unsynchronized first gear, 3 in the tree!
Working for my undertaker father we would line up the cars in the funeral. Let the people out and park their cars. You were driving about 10 different cars and transmission types. Most of the Italian funerals of that era had about 30 cars and there were normally 2-3 of us car parkers! Only once have I allowed a valet to park my car, and it was not a good experience. |
I won't tip a kid $5 to go park my car 20 ft from me and bring it back.
|
I worked as a valet once. Late that evening a customer who had parked his own car showed me a dent in his '75 Ford LTD and accused one of us of putting it there, rear fender, passenger side, down low. There wasn't a car near it. I asked him to open the trunk, which he did, then I popped the dent out by hitting it with my hand. Instead of a tip, he swore at me.
