July 20th is the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing-where were you?
I was at camp during the moon landing for that week in 1969. They had all the kids/campers come to the mess hall where they had a large console TV up on a table so everyone could see Neil Armstrong step onto the moon.
If you were around, where were you? |

I was walking into the enlisted men's club at Fort Monmouth and witnessed on a tv in the lobby. So glad I got to see it.

I think we were in town and trying to rush back to watch what little coverage about it was on TV. By coverage I mean trying to find a decent channel with reception in those days.

At sea aboard USS Independence.

I was in 2nd grade and I can remember them wheeling the TV into the classroom on a cart. We pulled our chairs up close and watched it happen live.

I was at my grandparents house in Texas.:cert:

My wife (then-fiancee) & I watched the first steps onto the moon on TV with her parents at their house. Late at night, IIRC.

I was not born before the Apollo 11 launch.
I was not born before the Apollo 11 landing. I was born before the Eagle left the surface of the moon. If I ever get Alzheimer's, as long as I can remember Apollo 11, I'll have my birthday close enough. LOL |
8 years old - watched it on the RCA console TV/Stereo/Record player.........

I was in Germany as a tank driver during field maneuvers and we lost a track on our M60A1.
Armed Forces Radio broadcast the landing while we were repairing adding some pleasure to a backbreaking job. We kept looking up wondering at the prospect of being on the moon. God Bless the U.S.A.! :USA: |
I was at home watching it on my TV. I was in high school at the time.
The strange thing that stands out in my memory is that we lived on a very busy four lane boulevard with 24/7 traffic. When they were walking on the moon there were no cars on that street. Everybody was watching a TV somewhere. |

I was 4 years old, living in Draper Virginia. It was a big deal, and I remember watching it on tv with my parents.

My folks had an early color TV set, round tube with top/bottom framed off by the bezel, 21fjp22 pix tube, Curtis Mathis version of RCA CTC15 old clunker type channel knob, with the fine tuning ring around it......VHF channels, watched on ch9 CBS......it went on for some time....as I recall it was about 1 AM EST when he stepped out......
I was filming the TV screen with Dad's 8mm camera, not knowing if it would turn out or not.....and sure enough it did, I remember watching that film about a month later.....I was age 25 at the time....... Dunno what ever happened to that film......lost in the move out/sale of their house in '~92 or so...... :confused5::shots: |
