Not a motorbike. I’m talking bicycle, the kind you pedal. By yourself. No e-assist, no silly motor, just man and machine.

Kathy and I ride bikes all over the island. It’s very bike friendly and has lots of great trails. We rode 12 miles Saturday, mostly on the Egans Creek Greenway trail system.

It’s flat there in Fla right? :)

We got hills. Lots and lots of hills. Even better we also have miles and miles of trails, hiking and or biking. The city and volunteers do a great job. I need to get out there and help.

Flatter than Colorado was. :D The app I have that tracks route, speed, etc. said our total elevation change was ~700 feet. Fortunately they had the foresight on this little island to not flatten the dunes to put in sea walls and condos everywhere. No private beaches either. The tallest dune in Florida is on our little island.

I enjoy it but never have enough time to get on the bike much when the weather's nice.

DDSLT5 04-29-2024 6:16pm

I ride whenever possible. My little ones love to ride their bikes!

Climbed this without using granny low. I consider that an accomplishment. :D

I was using Strava, free version of course. Now it ain’t worth a crap. Time to find a new free app.

That road is national park property. Hopefully no deviant time soon.

Deviant time? Well that too but I mean development.

Wife and I used to mountain bike a lot....Patriots Path was a favorite....I wound up in the hospital one time and she got pretty banged up too....now on the barrier island there is nothing like that. We still have our mountain bikes and will go to the mainland at times to ride some trails. But....mostly it's our 6 speed beach bikes these days,so yes we still ride bikes.

I use the free version of Bike GPS. Does everything except save trips, have to buy it for that feature. $5.99 for the “Pro” version.

I also have a hardtail mountain bike and one of them hybrids with the road bike bars. They’re all fun. Had an incident coming down a steep rocky hill at low speed on the mountain bike. Tweaked a knee pretty good but was able to ride home. I was tired of walking it and thought I was good enough to ride it out. Nope. I was lucky. And alone. Now it’s more I shouldn’t do that instead of why tf did I do that.

When I bike I use Kismet. It not only saves a complete track log of my trip, but also records all of the WiFi and Bluetooth it sees along the way. And it's FOSS. :D

Vandelay Industries 04-29-2024 7:02pm

I use the Samsung health app. It tracks rides well enough for my needs.

The_Dude 04-29-2024 7:05pm

The only two wheels I'm ever on has an engine.

I’m done with 2wheeled vehicles. But if it doesn’t have an engine I’m not interested.

Ten miles a day for 21 years until August 14, 2023 right up until I had a run in with this open manhole under construction left open in the bike lane by the city seen being filled the day AFTER the accident when the city was notified. Several broken bones and a severe concussion which is still a problem. I'm under the care of the local healthcare network Neurosciences team trying to get my vision under control. Left eye not working with the right eye, both eyes focusing on different points and double vision causing nonstop headaches. Also still having lapses in memory, much fun I tell you.

Wear your helmets boys, the only thing that kept me alive.
