How can this be?

Trump unable to secure the $454 million bond?
Discuss.

I'm not following the news. At all. I assume that they'll throw him in prison. That will gain him another 10 million votes.

He's appealing the decision, no jail time as yet; BUT if he fails to come up with the cash the State can potentially seize real property and liquidate it immediately if I understand the ruling properly.

I assume that this is NY? If so and they take Trump Tower it will be a good way to get out of that shithole forever. And if he announces just that he'll get another few million votes.

Seems like the start of an 8th amendment argument.

Might just be an exercise in semantics, but an adjudication is neither a punishment nor a fine.... and I recall candidate Trump stating he was wealthy enough to fund his campaign solely out of pocket... likely to cost more than 400 or so mil these days.

A fraud case where nobody was defrauded. Of course the entire sideshow was meant to be a punishment. It's very likely that the "damages" will be greatly reduced or overturned completely on appeal. That matters not to the judge and prosecution as the goal of the exercise was election interference.

I’ve always thought that Trump grossly exaggerated his net worth. Not being able to secure the needed funds isn’t surprising to me.

He is being ruined by our corrupt govt. I really hope he wins now. Retribution is coming…

Maybe lenders don't want to become targeted by the criminal Biden?

When you're that wealthy most of it is tied up to make more. It's not sitting in a bank account. And selling large assets takes time; rushing it will only decrease its value "bigly".

Exactly correct. Those who think billionaires have 100's of millions in liquid assets are ignorant fools

Would you help him post bond in NYC?

Even the crazy bonds people won't do this. This is not one of those only lose bond money if you flee, this is up to court judgment in NYC.

If I was him, I'd liquidate in NY and dump yet another few hundred thousand square feet of business space on that place.

cptlo306 03-18-2024 10:39pm

Didn't someone start a GoFundMe for him?

Saw an article debating which property to take in order to do the most damage to him possible.

He tries to sell now, he sells at fire sale prices. They seize his assets in NYC and sell them, it's also at fire sale prices, and then when he wins on appeal, oops, sorry, buildings have already been sold, can't get them back.

Clever, but this "criminal theory" could be used against anyone who has ever bought a house and obtained a mortgage. It's frightening.

First he was too rich. Now he's not rich enough. The left will stop at nothing to destroy him.

In other words, most Democrats.
