Its pretty close to me, only problem is getting it to my place. Im not exactly sure how far it is because I havent talked to the owner, only his daughter who is in the next town over. Ill call him today and see if I can go over and take a look after work.

Every second house up here in this rural area has one. Me I only have a tractor with a loader, but could hang a "broken dick" on the back if I wanted to.

I trust your prepared to do all the maintenance and repairs a oldie like this will demand! Many times the parts are not in stock for the older items.

I tried getting a loader for my Ford 3000 but couldnt get anyone to call me back about it. I was told that a 3 point backhoe attachment was rough on the 3 point system and by the time you price the two pieces together its almost the cost of a backhoe anyway. this is only a 96 so I think I could find the parts with out too much trouble. Unless Im wrong about that?

310Ds were manufactured from 1991 to 1996. Parts availability is still OK for the most part but things like cylinder rods are going obsolete so if it has any scarring on the chrome rods anywhere be aware you might have difficulty doing the repair. And yes, I work in parts at a dealership so my info is current.

So I have to assume there is a suitable replacement cylinder? what would the cost be on one, say for an outrigger?

That is serial number dependent... however a chrome rod is still available for your application (probably since I don't have a S/N) for $935.29. Seal kits are also available. Complete 310D stabilizer cylinders are obsolete with no substitution.
