Apprenticed for 10 years with a licensed electrician and can solidly confirm.

Had some azzhole just tuck wires back into a soffit from an old light at a house I owned. No wire nuts or tape, everything was fine until I put a new light up and disturbed those wires by moving the other set that went to the light. Sparks on a ladder were fun.

There was a large possum crawled into transformers in the basement of large building that I worked in.
Seems middle of July and cooked possum rotting for a day or twelve will make power guys throw up.
Kid you not they drew straws to see who had to scrape it up, dude threw up his shoes. The stink from 100 ft away would gag a maggot.

Most common thing I've encountered is 20 amp breakers on 15 amp wired circuits that and who needs those pesky grounds..

Very ingenious!

When I bought my camp back in 86 the wiring would not pass NEC for sure, I doubt some of it would pass Hammurabi's Code :D I did get the price down a bit more because of the wiring.!

Of all the phuck ups I think the best one was they used telephone wire to carry power in a few places, one of which was on a 20 A Circuit. They combined the red and green and also combined the other two wires thereby doubling what it could carry.

Splices in the wall were just twisted together, no nuts or boxes used. That camp was about 50 years old with a 60A fuse box when we bought it, why it never burned down I have no clue. We used the camp for about 16 years till I tore it down and built my present year around house. I rewired the camp before we spent a night in it. The funny thing just about all that was needed to do the wiring right was out in the garage, I hardly bought anything to do the rewire!:hurray:
