If you build it, they will come... (Lotsa Pics!)

A little project I'm doing, thought you might enjoy some pictures. Fiat is coming back to the US.

The last 2 are of another dealer being built 30 miles away, but this is what mine will look like by Wednesday.

Lots of curves
This wall had to be on an exact 60 deg. finished curve with 30.25" radius or the 'Dashboard System', an manufactured interactive playground, will not fit.

A standalone Fiat dealership? not with Chrysler or anything else to prop it up?

Yes, we are the General. We sub out all the work and my job is to make sure they build it to the plans, fight with the City Inspectors etc.

Yep. There's 5 being built simultaneously in SoCal that I know of and all are Stand Alones. Chryler VIPs visited the site last week, so I think Chrylser will run things in the US.

I've got 3 Service Bays with inground lift(for now) and a Parts building as well

Service Bays (Waiting for the UG Cassettes to get here Tuesday)

http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/u...labRemoved.jpg

Parts (temporarily in the Service Drive)- plans to build behind for 8 lifts and permanent Parts are being drawn up now.

Dan, Looking great in there. That Fiat logo sucks, I wonder if Fiat knows that.

Looks like you take as much pride in your job as you do in your car.

Are the clouds built to Cal. seismic specs or are they out of the zone that requires seismic specs ?

PLRX 03-12-2011 4:30pm

I want to share one thing with you guys.

This was also designed by Dan. I was going to overdo this project and he helped me out.

He even called Max Jax and had a pow-wow with them.

Thanks Dan

Always. The architect takes the 'concept' from the manufacturer and applies it fitting the existing building (95% of the dealers I've done were remodels), then it goes to the Structural Engineer who draws up all the details to code. Plans are submitted to the City and their Engineers go over all the Structural details, mark up corrections if any, or issue the permit. The inspectors have to inspect the work as well. A Deputy Inspector (private party, but licensed) is required for all Metal Welding, Concrete anchoring/rebar and epoxy work) which means they have to watch it as it happens (unlike the City Inspector who looks at everything when it's done, but before it's covered ie. drywall etc.)

This particular cloud was built with 20 gauge metal studs on an existing web truss system (wood) 16" on center, then angled braces every 48" both directions (as typical, using Simpson metal connectors) and then more metal clips (A34s) on each stud to the truss.

I think the whole roof will come down before this breaks loose (as usual).

Well Jim, if I ever go on the lamb, it will probably be a tropical island. If you ever go on the lamb, you can join me and we can remodel our huts together

We also build storage buildings, but they're very boring. I like the tranformation of a Dealership.

Here's some updated pictures

EXTERIOR IS COMPLETE (Except the lack of signage and the temporary banner)

THESE ARE 1/4" THICK CEMENT PANELS. THEY ATTACH TO A METAL Z BAR USING RIVETS. THEY COME IN VARIOUS COLORS AND SHAPES. FIRST TIME I'VE DONE THESE.

TILE FLOOR MATCHING THE LIGHT CLOUD ABOVE (getting ready to grout, so it's dirty)

THE GOOD STUFF! LIFTS ARE IN, AWAITING PEA GRAVEL BACKFILL AND THEN CONCRETE PERIMETER FOOTING.
