Peter Pan

I saw this over on CF in the C5 FI/Nitrous section. It was posted around 3am.

"Steve was in a bad single car accident in his supercharged Vette. He is in the hospital with 5 broken ribs and collapsed lung. Please say a prayer for him. Not much left of the Vette. At least no one else was involved and there was no passenger as the roof was crushed. I think his roll bar helped save his life."

I figured everyone would want to know. I hope he's going to be OK.

Steve Strawn of Converse TX. Steve built a monster Artic White C5 that he's run at the Texas Mile and various other events. He's been on CF for years. I met him and his beautiful wife two years ago at Vettes N Jets in Corpus.

Really good guy.

WKMCD 07-18-2010 12:33pm

That really sucks.

Get well quickly Steve. Do I see a blower on the wife's car in the future?

You're friend,

Kevin

An update I saw over at CF C5Gen:

Quote:

Back from the hospital, Steve is currently at University Hospital on the 11th floor. He's in the OR recovery room. The had to repair a ruptured diaphram, he also had 5 broken ribs and a collapsed lung. They've inserted a tube through his nose to help his lung. Spoke to him for about 5 minutes as that's all they would allow. He realizes how lucky he is to still be with us and hopes to be up and about soon. The hospital is full so he's waiting on a room.
Haven't seen what's left of his car yet I've been told it's pretty bent up. We'll keep him in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Glad he's talking and going to be OK relatively speaking.

Cobra4B 07-19-2010 9:04am

Wonder what happened.... first impressions would say he was out screwing around and his car bit him in the arse... could have been a tire blowout.... anything. Good thing he's alive.

If I remember correctly his rollbar is a POS bolt-in Wolfe thing that uses sandwich plates etc. If so, it'll be interesting to see some crash pics of it.

2ez 2spd 07-19-2010 2:21pm

Just seen these pics on CF still nothing on what happened.

Hard to see the other side from that pic, but it looks like the halo (b pillar) didn't collapse. If it is crushed, then I'd agree the rollbar definitely helped.

Cobra4B 07-19-2010 3:38pm

I read on CF that he was on his way home from the local Vette detailing hang out.... I can only assume some adult beverages were consumed over the course of the day and a little too much loud pedal was used and the car got away from him... but just assuming.

I know I've almost balled up my car driving home from the bar being stupid... I don't do that anymore.... luckily I didn't have to learn w/ a trip to the hospital and a totalled car.

You know what they say about Assuming
