Today is the Opening Day of Surgery Season

Took my dog in this morning to kick things off. The Vet removed a growth from his foot and sent it off, so we'll see if he has doggie cancer. Sounds like she thinks it's benign but, hey, for $400 why not check? Sheesh.

In two weeks the preseason is over and the things really get going with my lovely wife's major back surgery. She'll be the visiting team at the hospital for about 4-5 days while they do a double-reverse, end-around to repair her backfield.

Two weeks after that, my Dad has a double-header scheduled to repair a hernia and then go get cataracts removed. Dad's always been up for the big games.

We have a bye week in September but come October the big championship game looks like it will be my Father-in-Law's open heart surgery.

We're looking forward to a strong finish this season and even though its a tough schedule, I think the squad is ready.

Now let's have the team prayer and get out there!

I don't know if I wanna hang out with you anymore. As long as this isn't contagious you should be ok.

I had surgery this morning, I had two wisdom teeth taken out and had a rod put in my upper jaw to make the bone bigger to put a tooth in, nothing like havin a someone drill into your upper jaw.

Not to pry, but what sort of open heart surgery is so optional as to schedule it months in advance? :confused5:
The few I know that have been through it (my dad being one of them) went from the routine stress test directly to the OR table.

Hope all involved find their procedures successful!

Keep a prayer open for the home team for ya Bucky!

Good luck to all the people in your surgery list.

Defib1961 07-30-2010 8:54pm

See I got all of mine out of the way early. E has the right idea, do it now so you don't have to worry about recovery in your senior years.

Iron Chef 07-30-2010 9:55pm

Anything you need, just call.

I'll bring over a copy of the yellow pages.

Dang Bucky, that is a platefull, we hope they all go well.

PortDawg 07-31-2010 11:33am

That sucks...

I'm trying to decide if I want to have my deviated septum fixed, not sure the juice is worth the squeeze, I mean, I'm used to it like it is, why bother?

Halftime Update -

Elisa was released today after a Monday morning surgery the Doc termed "Perfect". I think I believe him. The day after having an 8" slice put in her back and having screws and rods and bolts drilled into her spine, they had her up and walking around the hospital floor. She had minimal pain, went right to solid food the morning after, and then they released her two days earlier than I expected. It's terrific.

I've very hopeful for the final outcome and I appreciate everyone's prayers and good wishes. She's got a walker for a while and it'll be three weeks before they take the staples out, but she's already sitting up in a chair and moving better than she has in months.

The Dog's surgery went great too - the growth was benign and Chief got to spend two weeks inside while the temps outside were all over 100°. He's not wild about returning to the backyard.

Entropy 08-18-2010 8:19pm

Glad to hear everything is going well so far Jim.

Y2Kvert4me 08-18-2010 8:24pm

Great news about the wife.
I almost never hear of back/spine operations going "as expected".

Hope the initial results remain for the long term.
