Found another sweet gem of a used car

I find these all the time, but of course I am always looking for them. This one was on CL three hours when I spotted it.
1995 Nissan Maxima SE. One owner car, 108k miles. Sunroof, ac, full power, cassette and cd changer. Everything works! Passes emissions and has new tires.
This car was garage kept, never painted on, and get this - never been smoked in!
The price? $1200. I'll drive it a little while and if it checks out okay trade it to my son for his 1996 Altima GXE. I bought it two years ago with 130k. For $1400!

Great car, I liked those back in the day. Had a few friends that owned them. I remember one having to do a water pump on his, but that was the only thing that ever failed. Drove the wheels off that thing. :yesnod:

No real trick. I check CL, Facebook Marketplace, and a couple of the local FB car for sale pages every day. Spend about an hour each day while I watch tv. Been looking about three weeks before I got this one. If I flip it I'd clear an easy grand or better, so fifteen hours research for a grand profit. Plus all my friends and family know I am always looking and tell me when they know of one, and conversely know when they want to buy I usually have something.

Biggest thing is having ready cash on hand. Not tomorrow in the bank but ready right now. Makes all the difference in the world.

The J30 body ran from late '88 to '94 model year. 1995 was the first year of the A32 body style. This one is 12/94 production date. A32 ran until the A33B came out in 2000 model year. I also have a 2000 Infiniti I30t that turned 103k last week.

I buy and sell a lot. It's a hobby that pays for itself, and I usually make a little change. Last ride was an '08 F150, one owner, with 150k. Traded the '85 Vette (also one owner with 80k) I bought for $4k in July. Only had the Vette a month. Sold the truck for $5500 three weeks after I got it. Made $1500 for driving it three weeks. If I sell this one I'll make at least a grand off of it.

I started the year with a Pathfinder, a Quest, and an '01 I30. This is the ninth one I bought this year. Sold seven, traded two, and still have the QX4 I bought in Feb and the I30 I bought Nov last year plus the Maxima.

I get to own and drive a lot of really nice cars, some pretty new, some old. I've had fourteen Camaros, six Vettes, five Firebirds, a few Novas and Mustangs, lots of luxury cars and compacts, and a few trucks. Older ones are easier and cheaper to work on. The ones I like I keep and drive a while. The '97 Tbird I sold last September I had almost five years. It turned 74k miles a few weeks before I let it go.
Best part is I haven't had a car payment since 1995.

In TN, are there any laws around the # of cars you buy/sell in a year and whether that makes you a "dealer" or not? i think the rule is more than 5 in a year. Also how do you handle sales tax? I'm afraid to pick this up as a hobby, it could ruin me lol

Or, if you're gonna make someone a smoking hot deal, Snake Plissken or his son might could use a break.

The law is you can't sell more than I think five. Lady at the DMV told me it wasn't something they really watch too much. Unless you get reported or register a lot it shouldn't be a problem. Two of mine I legitimately traded and there is no kind of limit on that so they didn't count against me.
As far as taxes make sure to get a bill of sale from the owner. If not you pay taxes on whatever NADA says market value is.

Have to be pretty cheap for me to travel to Jersey! That is a really nice car, though. If I did get it that would go to a family member or be a driver for me for a while.:seasix:

Watt does your INSURANCE company/agent say about the constant +- of vehicles on your policy?? seems they would want to turn you in to the .gov because wanting to sell dealers' insurance.....

:issues::sadangel:

BADRACR1 10-22-2018 9:25pm

No problem with them. I can do all my updates online. A couple I didn't drive so didn't have to insure and the QX4 is insured on Rita's policy. I always have at least two on there, usually one long term. I have had a couple that when I parked them for a while I took the coverage off then added it back when I needed to drive it again.

Hoog 10-23-2018 7:01am

I had a '92 Maxima SE, and a '96 SE that was the same color combo as yours....both were manuals. Fun cars, good drivers, comfortable. That's a slammin' deal for that car.
