Obeying the Speed Limit For Fun? Enter the Speed Camera Lottery

Volkswagen is not only attempting to be the largest car maker in the world, but they also want to control your behavior.

VW introduced its initiative site, TheFunTheory.com to find ways to use fun to change people's behavior for (what they think is) the better.

The winner ? ... A speed camera lottery.

It registers via photograph every car and driver that passes and, at the end of a set period, fines the speeders and rewards one lucky non-speeder, with a cut of the speeder's fines. In testing, the camera lottery reduced speeds by 7kph in the tested zone.

There are no holes in this plan at all.

But tell me, dear readers, are you willing / happy to be recorded for doing good or bad so long as there's random money involved ?

I can get started on this right away.. I can setup two radar cameras and bill speeders and send rewards to the people doing the speed limit. The only catch is I will keep 99% of the fines and give away 1% to the safe drivers. :hurray:

My new radar detector tells me when I'm coming up on a speeding cameras. It gives me a voice warning and the states once I have reached the marked intersection for that camera. :hurray: No more surprise cameras. :o_o:

My new GPS lets me know of stationary red light cameras before I get to them. Another APP lets me know where the speed cameras are too. Got this town wired!! :above:

Escort Passport 9500ix normally $499.95 not including tax and S&H. Got mine for $430 on Black Friday.

The NEW Passport 9500ix takes the next great leap forward in radar and laser protection. It starts with ESCORT's test-winning performance, which sets the standard for true long-range radar and laser protection. In addition we've added "AutoLearn" which utilizes our patented GPS technology to identify and eliminate false alerts automatically. This "artificial intelligence" creates the world's first fully automatic radar and laser detector - You drive. It learns. End of story. Nothing could be easier.

We've also addressed the increasing number of safety cameras throughout the U.S. and Canada, including red-light and fixed position speed cameras, by programming thousands of these locations into to its memory. As you approach these high-risk locations, the PASSPORT 9500ix alerts you in advance, keeping you up to date and ticket-free. To stay updated, simply connect it to your computer and download the most recent updates from our website.

for more info:
PASSPORT 9500ix - Escort Inc.

Things I don't like about this detector:
1) The top of the detector has to have a full view of the sky to connect to the Satellite. Which means you have to put it down lower on the window, instead of up high & hidden better. Mine is just below, kinda tucked under the rear view mirror.
2) Its rather large in size. No hiding this bad boy. No dought - Will have to take it down when entering a state where detectors are illegal.

Two other things about the passport 9500ix

It has a female voice that tells ya what type of band it is Ka, K or X. She also tells ya as you approach a camera and then once at the intersection. Kind cool not having to take your eyes of the road to see what band it is. :yesnod:

Also once the alarm sound goes off for a few second the audio automatically lowers the alarm sound down a little so its not blaring the whole time. :)

:yesnod: It comes in red or blue lights!

If your going to hide the wire you need to get the accessory - Direct-Wire SmartCord $29.95. Tried to go to the Best Buy near here to get it. The accessory comes in red or blue too. They only had the red and told me to order it! So I will check other retailers first. Got to have blue to accessorize with my blue Squirrel!

Probably uses a std RJ11 phone jack plug like the 8500?

Vendors sell hardwire kits that tap into the mirror power connector for like $15. (at least they do for the C5).

if you go through said intersection side ways does that help at all?

Culookin 12-11-2010 11:05am

We have speed cameras back in MD, everyone goes 15mph over the limit until coming up to one, then SLAMS on their brakes to 5 under... so this "experiment" is BS, people just speed back up after it!
