MOD Bug Came and Went: DD NAV system for the Vert'd Z
Well After quite a few months of going back and forth i was finally pushed over the edge to complete this mod thanks to Ray, a long time friend, fellow Chief and Master Craftsman. For a Xmas gift Ray surprised me with a Machine Silver DD bezel fitted for a a Pioneer AVIC F-90BT (he knew if i had a bezel this would be the radio i would put in). Ray (razor2430) has perfected the art of creating a double din C5 bezel!. The Quality is second to none and you definitely see this when u look at not just the front, but the backside where the actual bezel is structurally improved and molded. This is not just simply cutting the cross bar, moving it down and slapping some bondo on it to keep it in-place. So just my luck Ray had to fly into DFW to go to a school on my base and we had the chance to do a full install today. It came out amazing and the interior looks great now. Here's some of the picks of the install. Enjoy.
Old Radio http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1066.jpg Let the fun begin http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1069.jpg In order for the nav system to fit properly and ensure its secure you have to remove the support brackets and relocate the top support for the radio. The rivets that hold the brackets on are not a joke either :o_o: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1070.jpg Relocated mount bracket http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1073.jpg All wired up (everything is soldered and taped) The most important part now is the proper alignment of the radio using the support brackets, this is what makes the fit and finish what it is, we spent a good 45 minutes making sure it looks right. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1079.jpg Moved the HVAC down, test fitted and bolted it in place. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1080.jpg All complete!!! it looks Amazing and Sounds great, we also did the hardwire mod to allow playing a DVD and use all the NAV functions while cruising. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1084.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...7/DSCF1088.jpg Thanks again Ray and here's to you and CaliforniaCorvetteCustoms  |

The DD mod really updates the C5 interior which is getting dated. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g93/WKMCD/ddin2.jpg |
Very  Mike.
I've been putting off the DD mod for a bit now. Depending on what the IRS says this year I 'may re-invest' my money in this mod with a Kenwood head unit. |

Glad I could hook you up brother it looks awesome. Thank for letting me drive that beast.......  |
That looks very good man  Does Ray have a new piece re-molded from scratch?
EDIT: Looks like they're modified stockers. I will say you seem to have matched the OEM black texture/finish better than any I've seen previously. |

All of the Double Din Bezels start out as a stock C5 radio bezel they are cut and re molded in to the Double Din configuration. If you poke around the site under frequently asked questions there is a lot of info in there about them. Let me know if you ever want one. You can PM me for discount information. :rep::cheers: |
