leak

i closed my hood on my huyndai and hit the radiator and noticed a hissing sound but did not notice any anti-freeze on the ground , any opinions on what it could be?

Chuck A 09-21-2017 4:36pm

just wondering if i should be seeing antifreeze on ground if the car is not running, due to the water pump is not running, yea i have a 52 mile ride home and wondering if i should attempt the ride, needed to get to work and really didn't have time to inspect it

come on car mechanics , let me hear what you have to say, i plan on taking it to the shop by me, just wondering

How did closing the hood hit the radiator?

Chuck A 09-21-2017 5:37pm

since it was involved in an accident the hood latch i guess got loose and since i opened it to look at horn issue when i reclosed it i guess it must of hit it, and then when i closed hood the noise went away

Chuck A 09-21-2017 5:38pm

i guess a picture is worth a million bucs, but wont be able to check until 12;15am when i get to my car

You may have bent the tangs or locking ramps on the cap. That's the cheap fix. If you cracked the plastic or something, it's new radiator time. On the upside, hissing is better than pouring. I'd limp it home and watch the gauges like a hawk.

will it start leaking when it gets hot? because the gauge was in the middle so i am assuming it should have leaked already, or does it take a while, just wondering how come it stopped when i closed the hood

It will leak when it gets hot. It will leak steam and not pressurize which may help you because if it won't pressurize, it may not push liquid out.

I don't want to talk you into doing anything that might damage it further. I can only tell you what I would do.

ME:
1. Stay where I am as late as possible to avoid getting caught in traffic.
2. Take roads where I know I can get water if needed
3. watch the temp gauge (if there is one)
4. No radical driving/stomping the gas etc.

YOU:
1. You decide.

:cert:
