Creator of the GIF says it's pronounced "JIF" with a J-sound.

Of course it is. That's why back in the dark ages, when worms and viruses were first being spread around among personal computers, the saying was "Beware of Geeks bearing gifs". That saying doesn't work if it has a "j" sound.

Odd the creator pronounces it JIF. How would a computer nerd know enough about English to know a G followed by an i, e, or y has a J sound. Wait... Given it more thought.


I still say Gif as did most of the people I was around before I retired from a computer company. :D
