Recruiters

I appreciate being contacted by recruiters when they have a role for which my skillset is a match.

In the past few months, I've been getting more calls from recruiters who seem to be matching by keyword. And when I talk to these folks on the phone, it is very clear that they do not have a firm grasp of the English language, and that they are following a script. Anytime I ask a question, they defer it because they don't know how to answer it.

What is also fun, is that they seem to not understand exactly what the requirements are, thus the keyword matching.

Just today I was contacted by a recruiter for a gig in MA. The project is for a Workday consultant. I don't know this product, and as an independent contractor, am unlikely to land a role using/learning this product. Workday is an HR management solution, and while I do have 20+ years of experience with Oracle HCM solutions, and Workday was developed by ex-Oracle employees, I don't know Workday. But this recruiter is going to submit me anyway, and I would be very surprised if I get an interview with the end client.

I get that all of the time. "you would be perfect for my requirement". Yes, except I am not moving, I don't know that software, and I am mechanical design not civil.

When I was out of work, every recruiter, temp placement agency, and LinkedIn fisherman, tried to get me to sell insurance.

I think Workday was a spin-off from old Peoplesoft about the time that Oracle took over Peoplesoft

Getting a face to face interview and your foot in the door can lead to another position in the company. I've been on interviews before, a couple of times I got a you may not be right for this position, but, we want you to talk with someone in this dept. that led to a job.

It NEVER hurts to talk or interview with any good company.

Yeah, I was getting those emails too. Yes, I'll drop what I'm doing to sell insurance for $12/hr.

Yes, Workday was started by the folks who started Peoplesoft. It is a "closed" system. The only way to learn Workday is to get hired by Workday, or be employed by a company who has implemented Workday. :slap:

That's because no one tries to recruit anyone from Antarctica.

Face to face interviews are rather uncommon at the moment.

The last time I had an actual face to face interview was over 4 years ago.

I was able to have two (same place) this year, before this chit storm. Actually not totally accurate, I had a pseudo meet and greet for about 45 minutes. I was invited to check out their facility and operations.
