Electrical Gremlin has the Z down.

Got the dreaded Charging System Fault.

Replaced the alternator since it was smoking. No Joy.

Took it to Advance, they ran the diagnostic.

Not getting a charge to the Battery.

Alternator was bench checked.

Checked good.

Thoughts?

Buehler? :confused5:

Since it was smoking have you checked the associated wiring connected to the alternator? Battery? Belt?

PortDawg 10-18-2012 7:00am

Yeah, I'm cleaning grounds now...

When I'm not working that is.

Pull the battery and check cables, maybe battery is leaking acid onto something.

Corvette DIC message CHARGING SYSTEM FAULT - YouTube

maybe it will work for you.

After the tow truck deposited the Z at the shop, (Don't ask), it was verified that the new generator was only producing 9 volts which isn't enough to charge jack crap. So that one will come out tomorrow and be replaced with a OEM replacement and a new battery cable is already in.

Hey Ron or Jim, can you give us the cliff on this video? I could only make through as far as the ice cream truck music. I got side tracked and had to grab some ice cream.

Among other things it explains cleaning all the grounds and the connections to the PCM....

Hopefully it'll be done in an hour....

PortDawg 10-20-2012 1:23pm

Well, that fixed it...she's back to normal...:seasix:

RonC5 10-20-2012 3:00pm

It is an overly in-depth video by a slow talker. However, it is a great explaination of cleaning the PCM connection.
