8.1 magnitude -- one of the most powerful earthquakes in the region in modern history
all within the last 24 hours:
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthqua...e&timeZone=utc zoom out to see the relation to New Zealand or go here: https://www.drudgereport.com/quake.htm and click on "world map" story: https://www.foxnews.com/world/new-ze...ing-earthquake |
And the M6 aftershocks were nothing to sneeze at either.
I could never live along the Ring of Fire. :nono: |
not only the magnitude is important... but the depth is as well. Any earthquake is bad, but those less than 15 miles deep can really f**k-up the surface.
the 8.1 was 11 miles deep, the 7.4 was 32 miles deep. The Alaskan earthquake in 1964 was a 9.2 @ 15 miles depth. |
It appears it started yesterday afternoon and seems to continue.
