As far as I know it's the same thing, so I don't know why it bothers so many. I have no real complaints about mine other than it's slow, even with LACP turned on, but every NAS I've owned has been slow. The R6 is direct-connect to a 2012 Mac mini through Thunderbolt 1 and the network shares to it are extremely fast. I bought that R6 around the same time I bought the Mac mini.

I was just contemplating running Plex directly on the PR4100 last night. It has hardware transcoding, an intel processor and supposedly was designed for Plex. But there are so many complaints about how poorly it performs that I think I'll just keep it on one of the minis.

After waiting about a day watching my box hanging in shutting down mode, I pressed the power button and it turned right off, all lights disappeared so I'm quite relieved. I've had 3 external drives take a shit in the last 3-4 years and although some stuff was backed up, I still lost plenty of personal stuff I really wish I still had.

I considered setting up Plex too, but with the many bad reviews I decided to pass on it myself. :cert:

Another question, is my turned off server absolutely safe/secure while still being connected to the APC UPS? Could some kind of electrical or otherwise weird event happen that could **** up the general plan here? TIA

No. The only way your server that is turned off is safe, is if you unplug it from the UPS. :yesnod:
