Johnny, that sign at Minot is nothing but lies. I never made it there, only South Dakota, and I thought THAT place was bad. It's funny, you hear people who have been at GK, who are the happiest campers on earth, (I honestly never heard one bad thing about there) and then you have a pit like Minot. Not no, but hell no....Sign should have read, "Only the forced come north.":leaving:

I did a 30 day TDY to Minot during a November. It was miserable cold. Cold enough I had ice/frost inside the windows at Billeting. The room was warm but there still was ice/frost. The permanent party left the GOVs running all the time due to the severe cold. We'd been enduring well below 0 for about a week. Iirc, 60 below one night. Then, it got warmer so I took off my lined field jacket. You know me, I look for a jacket when it drops to the high 60s. Anyway, we then happened to drive by the Time and Temp on base. I was shocked. I felt warm but the Time and Temp stated 32. Oh yea, the base is 13 miles from town. Sometimes the weather gets bad so they'll close the road between the base and town.

Personally, I'm glad I never had to get near that place. Ellsworth was bad enough, and I was there for the entire month of May in 2001. Saw everything from 92 degrees to snow within the same week. And the wind.....it literally never stops blowing. Only redeeming factor about there, was the fact that billeting was jam up.:seasix:
