What kind of snake this is?

Cottonmouth. Kill that fukr

Generally if snake has recessed eyes in a "pit" they are venomous and that sure looks like a cottonmouth.

The cottonmouth is one of the most feared venomous snakes in North America. Its powerful cytotoxic venom is so destructive that it can eat away flesh and result in grisly amputations. Their preference for hiding in water and attacking when least expected means that bites are also relatively frequent. Thankfully, modern CroFab antivenom keeps fatalities very low. In fact, cottonmouth venom is one of the main components of the treatment, along with venom from diamondback and Mojave rattlesnakes.

:skep::skep::skep:

When we saw it, it was just outside our side door. I was walking Nukka and coming back to the house, there it was. She chased it into the lawn, next to a tree. It felt cornered so it curled up in to the strike position. I doubt that we have poisonous snakes in North Eastern PA, but I'd hate to find out the hard way. Don't need my dog to get bit by a snake, or any other wild animal.

:cheers:

Dekays Brown Snake/Common Brown Snake.
Harmless, beneficial, great for gags and pranks.

They typically appear light brown or tan; depending on where they live, they could have faint lines or a checkered pattern (similar to that of a garter snake).

Looks venomous to me with the triangle head. Can’t see the eyes to be sure. If the eyes are round then it’s not venomous.

DJ_Critterus 05-16-2021 8:18am

Triangular head. Definitely venomous. 'Choot'em!

Not if you know the exceptions like coral snakes and the ones you mentioned. I don’t think there are many cobras and black mambas in Louisiana.

When I first moved to Louisiana I killed every snake I found. Four years later living on the River I have grown to appreciate all wildlife; including snakes. But I swear I going to shot every feral hog I see after they destroyed my yard four days ago.
