[Dog-sitting] Meet Sadie

1 Attachment(s)
A friend of mine in palliative care had an outpatient procedure done this past Friday, so I am dog-sitting for the next week or so...meet Sadie, a Boxer-Pit mix - here she is sniffing the start of the snowflakes on my deck this morning :)

So far, a very quiet, polite houseguest :seasix: it also helps that I’ve dropped by 4x/week since August to help with dog-walks, so she is pretty used to me anyway :yesnod:

More to follow...

Awwww... so sweet. Love doggies.

Just sent in my semi-annual donation to the FW Humane Society. :hurray:

:seasix: Always glad to see folks contributing to pet-related charities, especially during the holidays :yesnod: since Cosmo passed I’ve been donating a small fixed amount to our local Humane Society monthly...also just had a couple memorial bricks (for Cosmo and Clara) added to our local animal shelter’s new tribute garden, will have to post some pics, was excited to see them installed a couple days ago :hurray:

I kinda quit doing that. Donations are terrific, but you know what they really need? Stuff. Leashes, collars, bowls, food and oddly enough? Paper towels. I prefer to just buy the shit myself and drop it off.

I’ve gotten the BJ’s Wholesale-sized package of paper towels and dropped them off, along with dog beds, food/treats, etc (they love the latter for training purposes)...the charity that benefited from my brick purchases helps pay for surgeries for the doggos that need them, which makes me very happy :)

Same...no food though, since most around here have monthly sponsors for food.
Puppy pads and cheap dog kennels are big hits for adoption shelters...(Harbor Freight, Target, etc...)

About every 4 months I'll stop at Target and buy 1/2 dozen big bags of food and drop them off at the local shelter. I can't foster, so I help in ways that I can :seasix:

Sometime around the 12th of Never :Jeff '79:

To be honest, I am content to just dog-sit as I have a lot of health issues I am contending with right now...but my friend, while not yet terminal, may pass away at some point in the future, in which case she will need a home. We’ve had that discussion already, and I have agreed to give her a home here with me :yesnod:

So, while I’m not seeking it out, it may happen anyway :Jeff '79: some here may recall Cosmo and Clara coming into our care after another friend of mine passed away unexpectedly...it appears I may just be the ‘keeper of orphaned dogs’ :willy:

Not sure if “palliative” care is hospice, but we see that so often at the rescue. Sweet, well loved family pets get brought to the shelter after someone dies. It’s horribly sad and the poor pet doesn’t understand. Often they are so depressed they refuse to eat.

Good on your for loving their fur baby during their time of need. ❤️👍

You’re a good man Mark.
