Well they finally made it suck worse....

Geeks at the office finally blocked the forums so I can't even check them on the network when at work.:nono:

Boy, I can feel myself becoming more productive already :o_o:

Defib1961 08-24-2010 7:26pm

And don't you feel better about that now? I used to "help" with IT at a hospital a few years back. All the sites we blocked were the sites we surfed when we got bored. :D

Munch 08-24-2010 7:43pm

My condolences,
They did this at one place I worked but we were buds with the IT guy so he unblocked our specific computers.

Glad my boss does not do that, oh that is me:lolsmile:

Vet4jdc 08-25-2010 6:42am

Sounds like a good time to ask if you can "work" from home?

Looks like Jim and Jesse's efforts to have a "work safe forum" are doing really well.

Thanks for the offer Tom, I pulled a couple of strings and got reasonable access back. It helps when the head of the security group's husband works for me! :nono:

Flamesuit on, if I had employees and I knew they were spending "MY TIME" surfing forums, they'd be looking for another job. I never could understand this ****ed up concept of "work safe environment" when employees are supposed to be working. I can understand not wanting to post pornography, but as far as I am concerned encouraging non corvette vendor related usage of employess in the interest of visitng chatrooms and forums is just as absurd.
For example Pewter is a CSI city/state employee who is on the forum all hte time, when does he do his regular job? And if he does both, the taxpayers are fronting the bill for is 100,000 posts or ten years or whatever it is. This isn't right.

no flames but....

People are allowed to take breaks
If I found one of my employees abusing the privledge , I'd act on it.

As far as pewter is concerned, he's stealing from the taxpayers.

I have to agree with both of you. My family owns this business so I get a few perks. I am more or less my own boss. I am sure that some of you may have noticed (or not. I aint that popular) that I have not been on the forum much for the past month or so. I was slacking in my job so now I check in very briefly once or twice a day and post during my lunch hour. My mom and dad do not care what I do. They have made their money are are riding out the last couple of years until retirement but, the more I bid, the more I make. I wasn't bidding enough and fooling around too much in the day.

I don't have a problem with it until they start calling me things like "lazy union slob" as they post on the company's computer & the company's dime. some of these people [you know who they are] are company officers [read CEO's] whoops! there I go getting all "political" again. :D

I think you may have missed my point. Jesse and Jim decided to go on this work-safe/family friendly crusade. All this heavy handed moderation and throwing people off the Forum because they're afraid THEIR VENDORS MAY LOSE BUSINESS...and it really doesn't matter. A company will or will not turn off access to the forum no matter what those two fools do to prevent it. The whole family friendly nonsense is Jesse's way of putting his fundamentalist Christian values into the forum. Parents will or will not keep an eye on their kids internet activities. Contrary to what they may believe, people really don't sit there and scrutinize Corvette Forum and walk away saying "Gee...what a lovely environment!" They just don't care that much. So my point is that they RUINED what was fun about CF and it was all unnecessary.

As far as spending time on the internet at work is concerned, if you have an open system, it's going to happen. I wouldn't want my employees to spend their entire day online. On the other hand, I wouldn't want them to feel so oppressed that they were afraid to check their personal Email. The smart employer finds a way to strike a balance, and generally speaking, the smart employee will appreciate that and do a good job. At least that's how I always was.

oahuyahoo 08-27-2010 11:11pm

I know your point, I was just adding an employers point of view on top of what we already know. The place just isn't the same and is mostly a complete bore and I think a lot of the vendors realize this, they're not dummies. The moderators major complaint is cleaning up all of the time, that's what you have to expect when you have a forum, there will be some of that no matter what. I'm sure the christianity play is there and I think part of it is under the guise of minimizing their work load while maximizing their dollar intake and the two do not go hand in hand. This is the failure you speak of. If I owned a business where employees sat at desks and wanted to look at pornography on their break I could give a rats ass and I'm sure most of the vendors on the forum feel the same way. Part of their "work safe" strategy is keeping folks like me and a bunch of others who really haven't done anything off the forum.

I lock down certain of my employees all the time if the internet use become abusive or detracts from their work. I own a transportation company and there is some time during the day when everything is in place and between phone calls.

I had one dispatcher who was abusing the privilege so.....everytime he tried to visit a site it was redirected to a gay dating site. He got the idea.
