97-98 Fuel Rail
 
Had an idea but not sure if it's a good one so tell me what you think.

I was considering upgrading my fuel pump for my nitrous set up but the Racetronix site said that because my fuel pressure regulator is back at the tank any increase the pump provides won't make it to the fuel rail because of the regulator.

So I'm wondering if I swap to a 97-98 rail with the regulator built in will that solve my problem? Can I use the older rail without having a return to the tank? :bilmem:

No, you'd have to plumb the return line back to tank in order to use it.

But the question is, what is your problem?
The regulator you have will hold a constant pressure at the rail so long as the pump is meeting the consumption demand. If pressure is falling off, that is a pump delivery issue (flow deficiency), and not the regulator's fault. You will find the same occurs no matter where the regulator is located.

The only effective difference is the distance any excess fuel travels back to the tank.

This is what Racetronix says:

Late model C5's with the returnless rail system will not be able to achieve this level of HP support with the fuel system alone. This is because the point of regulation is at the back of the car. The location of the FPR does not allow it to compensate for line pressure drop even though the pressure is stable at the back (regulator location). There are two options to get around this problem. First is to convert the system to a rail mounted FRP return type (best). the second is to install a pump booster which is activated at the point where the rail pressure starts to drop. The boost in fuel volume overwhelms the regulator / return line thereby increasing the fuel pressure at the back of the car which translates to higher pressure at the rail.
