It's time to get this back on the 1st page.
This is different than anything I've posted and something I've been working on for a while. I'm including a brief overview I posted on my FB page(@NoMondaysPhoto for fellow members of the evil cult). The colors are similar to those in many Hubble images. NGC 7000, aka the North America Nebula in the constellation Cygnus, is an emission nebula covering an area in the sky over four times the size of the moon. I captured this image using a technique called narrow band imaging which is why it looks different that what I've posted in the past. Narrow band images are captured using special filters, each passing only a very narrow, specific portion of the spectrum emitted when a certain gas is ionized by a nearby star. After the images have been captured, data from each filter is assigned to a color channel and blended with software. I combined about 4.5 hours of exposures from Sulfur, Hydrogen, and Oxygen emissions to create this image. For more details about the hardware and software used, visit my Flickr page here: https://www.flickr.com/…/…/48259495662/in/dateposted-public/ The really nerdy stuff is listed on Astrobin @ https://www.astrobin.com/414865/?nc=user |

Thanks 04! It's cool because I can do this narrow band stuff mostly from home and not have to drive 3 hours one way to find the dark. The down side is it's a lot harder to process the images but I'll figure that out. |
It's still so amazing to see......thanks for sharing man :seasix:

Thanks, Jeff. It's fun to share these with a new audience. I post them in FB groups and other sites where most of the viewers are enthusiasts but it's fun to post them here where most of the members don't see anything like it. Is just hope a few of you will get a chance to see some dark skies and just look up. It's an amazing sight. |

I'm seriously wanting to get into collodion/wet-plate. I just love that stuff. But, it's pretty pricey to get started.

Wrong place at the wrong time. Story I heard was that the light broke off due to wind, don't know for sure though.
(I know I posted this somewhere; hope it wasn't here already...) |
