One Million Verts

A friend of mine is shooting to make one million verts (vertical feet) snowboarding this ski season. He splits his days between two resorts here which average 1000 vertical feet, and tracks his progress using an app.

The math is simple:
1000 feet/run x 10 runs/day x 100 days/season = 1,000,000 feet/season

Not bad for a $1100 state-wide pass. :driving:

An easy task on some real mountains.

How's the snow holding out there?

I don't know, since I prefer two skinny boards, not one fat one. :Jeff '79:

I love skiing, but at 1,000 feet per run that would be a hard pass for me. I have better things to do with my time.

Look, I grew up skiing. Grew up in a ski town in Pennsylvania. Was in the Ski Patrol all through high school. Moved to Virginia and continued to ski southern Pennsylvania and Virginia's shitty slopes. Once you get through the moguls, all there is to do is point your skis downhill and ski back to the lift line. 15 to 20 second runs on crappy, granular ice nuggets. It gets old.

Much better to head to Vermont and ski Bear Mountain. 15 minutes to get to the bottom, all while in waist deep powder. And three lifts needed to get back to the top. No night skiing, but after a day of runs like that, you didn't need it.

I grew up in North Conway NH. Was on skis before I had a bike. Cramnore was walking distance. Other regulars were Wildcat, Tuckermans, Waterville Valley,
Killington, Stowe and the rest.

Who says “verts?” Does he say “like” every third word while talking too?

I grew up in Colorado. I’ve been skiing since I could walk. We never counted “verts.”

I reckon I surpassed that back in Jan.

Our local mountains are Bridger Bowl and Big Sky.

Bridger is 15-20-minute drive, 8,700' elevation with 8 chair lifts.

Big Sky is 45 minutes away 11,000' elevation and 24 chair lifts.

Anyone west of the Mississippi wins any ski talk/contest. East coast snow =trash.
