What stupid feature bugs you in your car?

I would like to meet the engineer who thinks it is essential to automatically activate the rear defroster in my Mustang every time I turn the A/C on.

Rodnok1 02-24-2022 8:32pm

I cannot select where heat nor ac come out of, floor for heat dash for ac no options. Wtf a 44k car new doesn't have what my 64 pickup did.

The SiriusXM weather radar for the 12" display that doesn't actually ever display weather.

I hate the push button start/stop....:yesnod: Let me explain....the radio stays on until you open the door when you hit the stop button. One day I had the radio off. I got out the car and forgot to hit the stop button. Went into the grocery store for about 20 minutes. When I came out the Jeep was still running AND unlocked.....:leaving:

The take-away is that you need a louder exhaust.

It doesn't bug me, but the feature that pushes an arm forward to "hand you" your seat belt is kinda silly. I can reach back just fine.

But oh those Germans: Why do in 3 steps what you can do in 12!

I hate thefact that RAM wants you to pay for a subscription to use GPS. Also don't like that fact that most of the AC controls like where the heat/cold air flows from, is only controlled through the touch screen on the radio.

TripleBlack 02-24-2022 10:52pm

2019 Acura RDX... I HATE that the engine shuts off at a stop light unless I remember to press the button to deactivate the feature when I start it. The "feature" is all about EPA points that save Acura $$$. And to sell starters. I'd love to punch out the Acura employee that made the call on that.

I hate the fact that 9 times out of 10 when my rear view mirror is filled with a bumper and head lights, it's a RAM pickup. Back off!!!! This is Texas after all. It's for your own good.

BTW, brothers in arms with you on the GPS subscription and touch screen menus replacing knobs. :kimblair:

I checked, but they don't make them for your car.

I have a Auto start stop eliminator unit in my '19 Edge ST.
Love it.

Someone must have a similar product for Acura.

Which Ram do you have? My 2020 1500 Limited w/ the 12" at first seemed to require a subscription to use the GPS, but it turns out that there's an "offline" (i.e. traditional) option if you press one of the on-screen buttons near the bottom rather than using the search field at the top.

Actually I did find a product that defeats (reverses the operation - install it and it's off until you press the button to enable so it doesn't actually defeat the feature). Actually it's the wife's car and she likes it. Until we have to replace the starter.

Lane assist sucks! Rented a a giant GMC SUV in Nebraska and if you change lanes without a blinker it vibrates the truck and puts you back in the lane. There was no one around for miles and I thought I hit someone/something. Hated that thing, everytime you got near a parking curb it vibrated. F that I'll just go until it sounds expensive on my own

I thought I would hate lane assist and never thought I'd use it but I kinda like the implementation on the Acura RDX. It occasionally gets confused with construction lane markings but I use it more than I don't. It does "shudder" the wheel when changing lanes without signaling but it's not terribly intrusive.

I do make sure the auto braking is off. The warning is fine but it sometimes comes on when driving into the sun with no car in site. Do not want a Dodge Ram running over the top of the RDX due to a false brake activation.

There is something really crazy in my wife's Cadillar SRX. If you load the car with clothing and other things in the back seat and floorboard, you will hear a somewhat loud roar coming from the back. It is like a really bad differential.

It turns out it is a highway noise reducing feature of the audio system.

I never found a cadillac dealer who knew that!

Lexus LX470 and LX570 don't display outside ambient temperature unless you specifically enable it each time you use the car.

Raptor does not always display the clock. It's displayed at the top of the multi-function display in the center of the dash. Many modes override the clock display.

Raptor allows you to press a button on the key fob to cause the tailgate to open. Not just unlock, but actually open. And it will do it while you're driving if something in your pocket happens to press the key fob open-tailgate button. This actually happens periodically. There is no override that I have been able to detect. There is no annunciator for tailgate ajar, though it might be possible to add one depending on the model year. (By add one, I mean integrated with the electronics of the vehicle. Obviously you can do yourself outside of that.) Once added there is no annunciator override for those times when you want the tailgate to be open. Damn machine makes noise about lots of irrelevant stuff but doesn't tell you that the tailgate is ajar.

Raptor chimes when it wants attention. Then you have to figure out what the chime is trying to tell you. Apparently Ford engineers are not informed about the existence of DSP chips that can tell you in spoken words what needs attention.

Raptor Crew Cab doesn't have electronics in the rear door exterior handles so you can unlock the doors without a key. You have to use the front door handles to unlock, then open the rear doors. Lexus had all four doors enabled in model year 2000 or earlier. Makes me hate Ford every time I have to unlock the rear doors. Very good for customer relations and brand loyalty.

Raptor - inconsistent operation of headlight auto-dimming

Raptor came with some kind of beep when locking the doors. Had to override it with Forscan.

Raptor came with auto start/stop. Had to disable it with Forscan.

Raptor came with artificial engine noise piped in. Had to disable it with Forscan.

Raptor won't automatically switch on the front camera when going slow (except in rock-crawl mode). Lexus did that starting in 2000 or so.

Mercedes SL 550 - won't allow the air conditioner to run if the top was down.

General principles, I despise the fact that car manufacturers are too cheap to provide dedicated controls for lots of stuff and instead force you to navigate through touch screens to get to various controls.

Torqaholic 02-25-2022 6:57am

I dislike warning lights. Don't need a light telling me I deleted the tire pressure sensors. WTF? They're distracting (especially at night). Least they could do is provide a way to turn them off so I don't need to plaster electrical tape all over the instrument panel.

Check engine light came on years ago. Do you'd think if there really was a problem something bad would have happened by now?

we wouldn't fill up your rear view mirror if you'd move that miserable POS you're driving :D
