What is the best car you’ve ever owned?
 

And why?

Please define BEST. Way too many categories that could affect that answer!

My 63 Volkswagen Beetle !....paid $65.00 for it and never had any trouble with it ! Wish I still had it !

Probably my 1971 Road Runner. 1967 440 engine. Purple cam, TRW 10:1 slugs. Nothing fancy. No heat, no AC, no carpet, no sound deadener, no back seat, no power brakes, one vacuum line, custom radiator. Full cage from firewall to back of trunk. Car was ridiculously reliable - drove it to work and back for 13 years. Only got more reliable when I switched it over to electronic ignition using Direct Connection parts.

Simpler times and it was a simple car. Pop the hood and all you had was engine and radiator. Battery was in the trunk between the cage rails. Horrible mileage, but it always started and always got me to work.

My gifted 1978 civic I got in 1986 with 100+K miles.
It was free, manual, and got about 40mph on the highway.
Eventually the clutch was toast, thus I learned to rev shift.
When I gave it away the clutch was more dead, the CV joints were toast, and the four spark plugs all had extenders to evade the motor oil that was spewing.
The seats were also ass, and the A/C did not work from day one, the paint also became two-tone due to oxidation.

BUT, it got me through college, at about $15/week in gas money.

Really enjoyed a 1990 Mercedes W124, always loved an inline 6 and its probably still considered the last good generation of MBs since it was followed by the Chrysler merger

My current car is the best one I ever owned..
Meets all my wants and needs.

1) great space for the family and luggage
2) race car straight line performance - puts a smile on my face every time I step on the go pedal
3) low running cost for a vehicle with that kind of performance.. Only real cost is my payment. No other cost
4) great warranty.. 150k miles on the expensive components (motors+gearbox as well as battery)
5) Adjustable suspension which makes it a great road trip vehicle
6) insane infotainment system with Netflix, HULU, Youtube, Steam gaming, any song on demand
7) Phone key.. I just love not having to carry a key fob in my pocket.

Not a car

For me, it would be the 2013 Honda CRV that I bought brand new in 2013. Never had an issue until earlier this year with the AWD (I have a thread on it). The car has 105,000+ miles on the clock.

I'm actually in the market for a car. Currently looking at the Ford Explorer and Honda Pilot. I currently have a 2016 Subaru Outback which is a great car, but it's not very comfortable for me when driving long distances of 100+ miles. So it will be traded in.

Hard to say, but if longevity of ownership is any indication, then my current truck is the winner.
2002 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 8.1L big block with Allison auto trans.
Owned it for almost 7 years now, and that's a new record for me, as I rarely keep vehicles more than a couple of years. It just does everything well (other than avoiding gas stations), hauls whatever I ask it to, and it's actually fun to drive.

My current C5Z is a close second, since I'm into year 5 of ownership now. Both vehicles are anomalies when compared to my 30 year history of vehicle ownership.

My first car a 1955 Chevy Convertible. I paid $300 cash for it. Easy to work on pretty much maintenance free. Everybody would put in a quarter and we would cruise all night along the beach and Sunset Blvd in Hollywood.

My first thought as well. In 1991, I bought a well-used '63 Beetle for $250, put about $300 in parts into it rebuilding the engine, got hit in a parking lot and got $900 from insurance and fixed it myself for $80, and proceeded to drive ith for ten years and over 100,000 miles without any issues. 30+ mpg, comfortable, reliable as a hammer. I just made sure to adjust the valves every oil change, a ten minute job. I sold it in 2001, and still have dreams where I'm driving that car. A tie or close second would be my '64 Galaxie or my '83 HiLux. (I still have the Hi Lux, going on 32 years now)

Having had a bunch of rides over the years it was hard to just pick 1!

I guess based on the fun factor it had to be my 67 Dodge RT 440 AT convertible.

I had just turned 21 and bought that as my first new car. Had a couple street races against my friends and the car was quick. Took it to the drag strip and the first run of a 100% pure stock produced a 14.50. By the end of the day I had won my class and was turning in the very low 14S. The area I lived in back then was a hot bed of both street and strip racing.

Car also had a decent back seat and had a bunch of close encounters of the best kind with the very agreeable females.

It was the only car I owned so drove it year around. I worked construction and made decent money and did a lot to that car. Working PT at my buddies speedshop got me all parts at his cost. I did a lot to that car. went through about 5 differential changes (Pumpkins)from 3.23 to 4.33 and finely settled on 3.91.

After a while as I was more interested in street racing I did a lot to the car. Headers, Eldebrock manifold with after about 5 carb changes I settel on a Holly 3310. Changed distributor. Put in a Chrysler experimental cam & kit that the local Dodge dealer arranged for me to get. Had some serious head work done. Had a custom built Hemi auto trans as the stock torquiflights were not lasting that long.:D

Car could run low 12s so as a street car of that era it was fast. All that work put me into B modified production and the well built cars coming in on trailer were much better and beet me but as said it was a street car driven year around.

I got married and the 3-5 MPG that car got even if driven like a cop was behind me forced me to sell the car. Car was well known and I got good money for it.
So I guess that qualifies as a best car.

I couldn't drive a car where joggers would pass you on the street.

New 1978 Camaro

I was station in Korea in 1977 and ordered it through the AFEES system. Thing is the way it went down.

I really wanted a Z28. Cost was an issue. Base price on a Camaro was $4100 at the time. Base on a Z was $4900. So the guy and I came up with this. I ordered a basic LT Black Camaro with a light tan interior.

Front and rear spoilers, 350engine, Hurst shifter, Posi rear end, all instrumentation and came out at $5k. I picked it up in Boston and the dealer really put the squeeze on me to let him keep it

Have two actually. My Grand National, and my C5Z06. First one was just a fun car. I owned it for many years, and over 100K miles before I moved on. It was New back then people were all over it. My Z06 for speed, sound, looks etc.. had a lot of smiles driving that one.

Get back to me after you've owned and driven it as a daily for 32 years or so a I have. And it was ten years old with 130k on the clock when I got it. :seasix:Attachment 98714
