So My Ex

My ex inherited her father's '68 Camero this past week. He's 84 and no longer drives it so he decided it was time to give it to her.

He purchased it sans engine and installed a 327. I've been trying to decipher exactly what options the car came with off the VIN and Cowl Tag - and what 327 he put in the thing based on the engine stamp.

It was built on the second week of November, 1968 a the Norwood Assembly Plant and shipped from the factory in Ermine White. it also appears to have the correct interior. The rally wheels and bumblebee stripe also appear to be correct.

He's entered it in local car shows and has taken a trophy or two with it. While it's not what I'd call concourse condition, I'd say it's excellent.

She's a bit of a car nut herself and has owned two Cameros, one of which was a 2015 2SS/426HP/Manual.

Only thing looking dingy is that brake booster and MC. Swap that stuff out (or clean it up real nice) and you'll have a burner man.

Well, we're divorced. It's her car. :Jeff '79:

She was asking about oil changes just yesterday and because I'm an idiot I told her I'd help her with that. You know what "Help" means; Hand me the tools and stay outta the way. :Jeff '79:

Look in front of pass. side cylinder head for a pad. It should have numbers stamped into it. There is a suffix code to decipher HP/trans/application.

Post a clear pic of the stamped pad or google the suffix code on the pad.

Then you 'trade' for work or research done.

And don't ask 'trade for what'!

I'll see if she can locate it. If not next time I'm up that way I will.

We know it's not the original motor. Not sure about the transmission however. She's going to dig through all the paperwork he gave her and ask him what he remembers about this and that. He's 84 and slipping a bit mentally unfortunately.

All this is just curiosity on my part. :cert:

Factory intake? I thought all 327's had the oil fill through the intake manifold.
What side is the dipstick should be on the drivers side, newer has on the passenger.

Dan47 04-23-2021 8:21am

That’s a good looking car. Any pics of the ex?
