My senior year in college, I was doing lab research as part of a graduation requirement. I came out of my lab to head home at the end of the day, and it was what started out as a mild thunderstorm. I didn't get more than 200 yards from my lab, when the lighting was striking all around me, and I changed direction to head to a friend of mine's house which was much closer than my fraternity. I was maybe 50 yards from her house when I could feel the hair stand up on my forearms. I dove at the base of the brick building across the street from her house, and a bolt of lighting hit a tree maybe 50 yards from where I was. The sound was truly deafening. Scary shit man.

I was driving a 69 Dodge van when lightning struck and exploded a pine tree less than a 1/4 mile away. It was extremely loud and had a "funny sensation" immediately before the strike.

There was bark and 3" and smaller branches all over the road. The tree was literally split and smoking when I drove past. The base was in excess of 2' in diameter and probably about 40' to 50' tall. They cut it down the next day.

There is a flag pole on the tree stump now.

Was putting a Transmission in the car, hot humid summer night and yes sweating. Both my Brother in Law and me we laying on the garage floor wrestling the trans into the clutch when BAM lightning hit in front of house. My left foot involuntarily kicked the lift I was under and every single hair was raised on my body.... felt like I was hit with 220v.

After a couple of F’dis, many beers were consumed. Trans was installed next day.....
