Grocery store observations

I know that I do it, and you know the grocery store folks observe what you are buying, say for instance someone has a group of steaks, charcoal, beer and taters, you know they are about to get busy grilling out and drinking beer. So....today, I had to stop by the store for dog food, toilet paper, and some ice cream. I just went ahead and told the lady, Yep, I'm going home to feed the dogs, eat some ice cream, and poop!:yesnod::D

Actually they are not giving much thought to what you are buying, they are too busy keeping things moving along, being accurate with your order, and thinking about how much longer their shift is going to last.

I went to the store tonight and was annoyed by the customer ahead of me in line, a somewhat elderly lady, carrying on with the checker and another employee of the store while I had all of my stuff on the conveyer belt ready to be scanned.

I waited for at least 2 or 3 minutes while the employees were fully engrossed in conversation about this woman's vacation in Israel. I was starting to get pretty pissed off, and I am sure I was visibly annoyed. Her shit was already sacked up and ready to go...and I'm just standing there wanting to leave.

I just got off of work. It's Friday, I've been flying around for 2 and a half hours in some shitty turbulence and bad visibility, I just wanted to go home and have a drink, feed the dog and cook dinner. But no, they just continued to carry on without a care in the ****ing world. Inconsiderate and unacceptable.

My time is more valuable than some random persons vacation, I'm sorry.

Most of the places I shop at have self-checkout terminals, so I make a bee-line for those :seasix: when out in public shopping, I want as little interaction with other people as possible. :Jeff '79:

A lot of the grocery stores in SOCAL removed self checkout due to theft. :yesnod:

Whenever I use the self check out I ask the clerk if I can get the employee discount.
If I have one item I go thru a line. I'm paying for their salary so why not utilize them.

What I really love about self checkout is when, say you are buying 2 cases of bottled water and you don't place them on the bagging area and you can't do a damn thing until someone comes and clears it!

The Ralph’s here in Porter Ranch added more. :willy:

Speaking of grocery shopping, have you been in the new Whole Foods here? Much bigger and nicer than the one it replaced. :yesnod:

I hate when that happens, especially paper check writers.
Debit card, granny!

The majority of stores have self-checkouts nowadays,
except for the local Piggly-Wiggly.

The Albertson's by my house (Nordhoff/Balboa) took all of the self check lanes out a while back. I don't shop at the Ralphs up the street on Devonshire...haven't been in there in ages. I usually do most of my grocery shopping in Simi at the Aldi and Wal-Mart off of the 118 and Madera. And then hit up Trader Joe's 118/Balboa for other stuff.

I haven't been over there in awhile, but I have seen it from the air. Looks huge! What else are they putting in that new shopping center?

Also they passed a law in California that you can't take alcoholic beverages through the self checkout line. I'm willing to bet the Retail Clerks union lobbied for that law, but it does make sense.

At one of the grocery stores here, one time the cashier had to make a comment on every item I was buying. **** off, shut up and do your job.

Went to that store another time, and after scanning and paying, the cashier had to leave the register and walk around the bagging area, to where I was standing, to give me my change. **** off and reach over the counter! I didn't walk around to invade your space to pay for my groceries.

I hate that store.

And just why is there always a price check on the gallon jug of "Anal Ease"?

Don't ever buy cucumbers and Crisco in the same trip. if you need them for whatever you are making for dinner, go to separate stores.:yesnod:

Yeah, that would be a little suspect!

Aerovette 06-15-2019 5:14pm

Pro tip for anyone with thieving friends or family.

WalMart self check does not have a scale in it to know if you put something extra in the bag. Scan 1, put 4 in the bag.

Second, buy organic fruits and veggies, enter non-organic code.

A manager friend told me this.

The Whole Foods is pretty huge. There’s a restaurant there and a juice bar. And the salad and food bar is much bigger.

I’m curious to see what they put in the space where the old Whole Foods was...rumor is either Sprouts or H-Mart. Either is fine with me because I drive to the Granada Hill’s Sprouts now. And if I want to go to the Asian Market, I hit the Galleria at Devonshire and Reseda. So, having either of those in the old Whole Foods space would be nice.

For the new shopping area, aside from Whole Foods...

AMC, Nordstrom’ Rack (already open), Ulta (already open), Peet’s Coffee, Lure Fish House, Gus’s BBQ.

But what I’m looking forward to is Porto’s in Northridge.

I love when they ask "Did you find everything you wanted?". So I say "Were you hiding stuff?". Only one old guy teller got it. The rest just look at me with a confused look.
