grand sport wheels on c5

I am in the market for wheels and i have seen alot of options out there. I like the grand sport wheels but have not seen them on a c5. Does anyone have this option? I am almost sold on the c6 zo6 rims unless i can catch a glimpse of these in use to sway my decision. If so can i see a pic.

I was looking also.........based on the review--------NO-----------
+79mm rear offset is a killer. Would stick out even for my tub job 97'
I have seen some pics on a std C6..........can you say tire stick out 1"+ :skep:

lutzdog 11-02-2010 7:44am

damm. guess its c6 zo6's

paulp 11-02-2010 6:49pm

i believe the grand sport wheels are the same size as the c6 z06 wheels

The std C6 19x10" wheel is a 79mm offset, and when fit on C5s they are too tucked in, in fact most need spacers to keep them from rubbing the inner liner, and/or to look respectable.

The 19x12" wheel on C6 Z06 and GS's are actually 59mm offset, and if you understand how offset works, that lower offset pushes the centerline of the wheel's width out more, which makes a tub job irrelevant.

Because yes, a 19x12"-59mm, will be close, but poke out of the fenders very slightly on a stock C5 body.
Ideally, a 12" wide wheel for a tubbed C5 to keep a flush fender fitment would be in the 74-76mm ballpark. (More offset = more wheel moves inward).

In contrast, those with aftermarket rear fender flares who do want the wheel to stick out more, are usually looking at a 45-48mm offset ballpark for that same 12" wheel width.

So, even if there were such a thing as a GM 19x12" - 79mm offset wheel (and there isn't), it would likely fit your tubbed C5 quite well. :yesnod:

The GS +40/+59 offsets would look bad on a C5 IMHO.........
You are correct, I wasn't clear on the +79mm offset issue
It would be to deep for my C5 any way as a +74mm is what I run to be near flush depending on tire manf & size. I would need to run a 5mm spacer.....
I understand offset VERY well as this is what I have played with to date:

Interesting fact.........I love my MAG wheels for this reason:

* The Exports have a different offset measurement at the mounting point so as to bring the wheel and tire in-board under the fenderwell approximately 1/2 inch. These wheels can be identified by a Black Line drawn around the circumference of the wheel between the beads. This Black Line will be seen only when the Tire is removed from the Wheel

Domestic / Export Magnesium 5-Spoke RPO N73 **
Front - 17" x 8.5" - #9592638
Rear - 18" x 9.5" - #9592640
** These wheels have always had the offset to meet Export requirements

C6 non Z06/GS

Front 18 x 8.5, +56 mm offset

Rear 19 x 10, +79 mm offset

C6 Z06 & GS (SPEEDLINE is the manufacturer for the GSs)

front: 18 inch x 9.5 inch, +40 offset

rear: 19 inch x 12 inch, +59 offset

FWIW, here are a few photos I've seen from posts on the forum of OEM Z06 wheels and tires mounted on a non Z06 C6. I may slap some GS wheels on one of my C5s for some pics just to see..........

Here's a pic just to give you an idea of the GS wheels on a C5 look..........there was a set for a good price and I was looking.......but they will not fit right and look poor on a C5 IMHO

PM me if ya need anything else Lut :D

That helps. Thx alot. BTW those rims look hawt on the c5

Y2Kvert4me 11-03-2010 10:01pm

They look hot on the C5 because its a photoshop job, and the wheels were incorrectly "sized", as they appear more like how 19/20s fit a lowered C5.

The rest of the pics were of a C6 which is a narrower (body) than the C5 is (gee, maybe also why they changed C6 offset to be tucked in more?). So, the widebody 19x12s will definitely stick out of base C6 fender more than they will mounted on a C5. Not a valid comparison.

I'll let Steve further guide you with specific fitment and offset questions, since he knows it all, but be sure to keep in mind which day of the week you ask him...
The wheel that sticks out on Tues may very well need a spacer on Wed.

Nice attack........says the kettle........that’s exactly why I deal with PMing and rarely post.
Never claimed to be a know it all, but I am confident and confirmed correct in many of my “hands on”C5 areas
Sorry to clutter your thread Lutz with BS...........:skep: A real moderator would know better to PM his inferiority issues vice an irrelevant call out of a Personal attack/hostility in an open thread and take the thread off track

FYI there are pics floating around on CF of a black C5 with silver painted GS wheels. There's also a yellow Z06 sporting black OEM Z06 "spyder" wheels. They stick out about 1/2" in the rear and a smidge up front. You might be able to get away with it if you run a bunch of negative camber.

I'm running 08 Z06 oem chrome speedlines on my C5. I also think the Spyders would look Sweet! Still working on getting it lowered!

Yep, and had you done that, there would be yet another misinformed person out there.

Kinda defeats the purpose of a public discussion forum, does it not?
