My car value...'72 vette vert...

I need a decent valuation for my '72 vette.....there is NOTHING stock, except the chrome bumpers....pix from 6 years ago are online here....

paint has suffered the usual wear over the few years.....but from tires up, it's totally custom, both mechanically and cosmetically......and the rag top is tired....it drives ok, but it's a DD use for some years now, spending more days in the garage than even a 2 mile trip.....

so lets keep it honest and lo price estimates.....

DJ_Critterus 04-10-2024 10:12am

I'll give you a 6 pack of Budlight for it.

Pix?

I'm just curious, as I had a '72 POS also, sold it 30 years ago.

But... you haven't seen the Frankenvette in person like a couple of us have :willy:

Prices have come way down from a year ago. You already missed the prime time to sell so keep your expectations reasonable. Modifications don’t usually help the value. Good luck.

DJ was being polite calling it Frankenvette. I’m truly thinking it might only be worth its sum of parts. Less than $5K would be my valuation.

After a quick look at beautiful stock appearing 1972 roadsters for sale online , https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used...-Corvette-c436
I would say that if you found the perfect buyer that was looking for a heavily modified version like yours,

you could start at $22k & try to settle for $18k

To who?

You>everyone else

Swany00 04-10-2024 11:12am

probably not as much as you are hoping for

A picture would have helped but I'll say this: 'custom's' tend to get dated badly and don't hold up like a stocker would. I've seen some easter egg customs from 30 years ago go for pennies on the dollar lately. Very expensive cars that scream 1990. No thanks. People want the latest and the greatest or original. Not Disco Dave.

Looking at the picture of it i think you should set it on fire.

It would be nice if you posted some pics here instead of making us search for it....

Yes, it's been like that all my life, including with motorcycles. By visibly modding something you are immediately limiting your pool of buyers, which will drive the price down. I would never touch one because many are hack-jobs which isn't necessarily visible.

My '72 Vette, although a POS, was bone stock. When I was looking for a good used C6 ten years ago, bone stock was a requirement, and that's what I got with my '07.

I agree. I have no idea what it looks like, but judging from the average age of this group, I'm thinking Weld wheels and tacky flares and for sure, side exhaust. Basically a Hot Wheels car. Am I close?

Keeping it honest, every one of those mods detracts from the value.

You're better off just keeping it. :yesnod:

TheHammer 04-10-2024 11:33am

I'm guessing, "back in its prime";

look up my handle, mrvette....and click on it, then it's obvious how to get to the pix......

The value is in being a '72 vert. If the frame, structure, and body are straight and solid, it has value as a basis for complete restoration or complete rebuild as a restomod. I have no idea what that dollar value would be.

Mick 04-10-2024 11:47am

What engine is in it? Auto or manual? Is the drive train original?

Big block 4 spd verts with original drive trains pull the most of the chrome bumper cars, even with some apparently reversible mods that you have, someone will pay good coin for it.
