Well they finally made it suck worse....
Geeks at the office finally blocked the forums so I can't even check them on the network when at work.:nono:
Boy, I can feel myself becoming more productive already :o_o: |
And don't you feel better about that now? I used to "help" with IT at a hospital a few years back. All the sites we blocked were the sites we surfed when we got bored. :D
|
My condolences,
They did this at one place I worked but we were buds with the IT guy so he unblocked our specific computers. |
Glad my boss does not do that, oh that is me:lolsmile:
|
Sounds like a good time to ask if you can "work" from home?

Looks like Jim and Jesse's efforts to have a "work safe forum" are doing really well.

Thanks for the offer Tom, I pulled a couple of strings and got reasonable access back. It helps when the head of the security group's husband works for me! :nono:

For example Pewter is a CSI city/state employee who is on the forum all hte time, when does he do his regular job? And if he does both, the taxpayers are fronting the bill for is 100,000 posts or ten years or whatever it is. This isn't right. |

People are allowed to take breaks If I found one of my employees abusing the privledge , I'd act on it. As far as pewter is concerned, he's stealing from the taxpayers. |

As far as spending time on the internet at work is concerned, if you have an open system, it's going to happen. I wouldn't want my employees to spend their entire day online. On the other hand, I wouldn't want them to feel so oppressed that they were afraid to check their personal Email. The smart employer finds a way to strike a balance, and generally speaking, the smart employee will appreciate that and do a good job. At least that's how I always was. |
I know your point, I was just adding an employers point of view on top of what we already know. The place just isn't the same and is mostly a complete bore and I think a lot of the vendors realize this, they're not dummies. The moderators major complaint is cleaning up all of the time, that's what you have to expect when you have a forum, there will be some of that no matter what. I'm sure the christianity play is there and I think part of it is under the guise of minimizing their work load while maximizing their dollar intake and the two do not go hand in hand. This is the failure you speak of. If I owned a business where employees sat at desks and wanted to look at pornography on their break I could give a rats ass and I'm sure most of the vendors on the forum feel the same way. Part of their "work safe" strategy is keeping folks like me and a bunch of others who really haven't done anything off the forum.

I lock down certain of my employees all the time if the internet use become abusive or detracts from their work. I own a transportation company and there is some time during the day when everything is in place and between phone calls.
I had one dispatcher who was abusing the privilege so.....everytime he tried to visit a site it was redirected to a gay dating site. He got the idea. |
