Legendary Pictures has hired veteran TV director Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Smallville, Daredevil) to helm the sequel to Guillermo Del Toros Giant Monster masterpiece, aimed at a 2018 release.

The first film wasn't a massive hit here in the US, but did unexpectedly brisk business overseas. Legendary had earlier planned for a 2017 release, but in early 2015 pulled the film from the slate and said it was "on hold indefinitely"...

Then, the Chinese entertainment conglomerate Wanda bought Legendary, and robert's your mother's brother.

Can't wait, GDT has been dripping outrageously cool tidbits of cooolness on this and I can't wait to see where he takes the story next.

... this and TWO Godzilla movies in the next few years... good times if you like goofy giant monsters stomping model tanks...
