It's a Southern thing. :yesnod:

They're different, but I like them. #2 son brought me some from a roadside stand on a road trip he went on; a little better than the canned product.

Just heat and eat ?

I've heated them in the microwave, & had them right out of the can. No preference either way. Try both ways & see what you like! :seasix:

Have never tried boiled peanuts.

69camfrk 05-06-2020 2:11pm

Pure sacrilege....:yesnod: Boiled peanuts are either bought from the dude with a stand outside the convenience store or made at home. They are never under any circumstance bought at a store in a can.

Dan Dlabay 05-06-2020 2:14pm

The Vietnamese like them and my wife several dishes with them. I like them.:cert:

I'll wait for Pickled Pigs Feet in the gallon jar. Those were always on the check out counter at the country store while I was growing up in Louisiana.

*I never ate that shit then and I damn sure won't now. Just ewwwwwwww.

Practically every grocery store in the south has them. Drain brine, microwave one minute, enjoy. Eat the shells if that’s your thing. Dey good.

I like all peanuts, my favorite though, Planters Cocktail Peanuts.

40 - 50 years ago in Baltimore, you couldn't go into any neighborhood corner bar and not see these sitting on top of the bar counter.
Pickled eggs, pickled pigs feet, pickled onions, pickled hot sausage, eating those, and of course consuming beer..........some of the rottenest, stinkin'-ass farts you'll ever smell........whew........

Love pickled pigs feet:leaving:

And the home schooling history lesson for today -

"Goober Peas" is a traditional folk song probably originating in the Southern United States. It was popular with Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War, and is still sung frequently in the South to this day.

The lyrics of "Goober Peas" are a description of daily life during the last few years of the Civil War for Southerners. After being cut off from the rail lines and their farm land, they had little to eat aside from boiled peanuts (or "goober peas") which often served as an emergency ration. Peanuts were also known as pindars and goobers.

I haven't had them myself but from what I understand, it's one of those foods you either like or your don't.

My supervisor at work stopped and got them one time. He was saying how terrible they were. I'll ask him tomorrow if he ate the shells

:iagree: They're def not my thing :nonod: :ack: just like them roasted but not salted.

Although I prefer other nuts more...esp cashews, pecans, and almonds. There is a 'dark roast' almond butter that Maranatha makes that I love to use for sammiches instead of PB.

But I am most hooked on this place: www.sunnylandfarms.com

I get the toasted but not salted 'mammoth' pecans and they are to die for :yum: they also have jumbo cashews...all of which are better than what you can find in-store mass-produced.

Their pecan butter and cashew butter is also outstanding...as is just about everything else they make (turtles, pralines, etc). :seasix:

I placed an order yesterday as a matter of fact. :leaving:
