2 weeks ahead already?

GWiz is only into wrapping up her 3rd week at Schlumbeger. She's been informed she's now two weeks ahead of schedule. :faint: I guess they have built-in milestone expectations for interns?

All she's doing is compiling massive amounts of data into a spreadsheet. She's planning on automating that in the Cloud and sharing the improvements with her boss. She's confident she can automate the entire process and make warm bodies obsolete.

Way to go G. This is what built my career...identifying BS manual processes and automating them. :cert:

this is good, those lazy bums will now have time to pursue their passions, like poetry, French Lit., ancestry, eating.....

Isn't that a bit like engineering herself out of a job?

Not if she's the one who own's the rights to the IP that makes others obsolete. "Hey company: Here's some software that makes the work of me and 3 peers able to be done by just me. It only costs this much, and I can proliferate it for you." Is that enough return on investment?

Technology still has to be maintained. She may be able to leverage this summer into a summer where she stays in engineering AND gets to stay in software to make both parties better off then before they met. :yesnod:

Seriously, as an intern, if you can use your skills to make 3 full-time employees (non interns) obsolete, do you not think said corporation will take notice? I do, and I think they would pay her a premium to continue to deliver said results. It doesn't stop with the first 3. It extends and extends until there is no one else to replace.

Good on her, way to go Pops....:seasix:

My first corporate job, on day one, I filled out a pile of papers, one of which basically said, if you create it here, we own it. Oh.

Clearly, you missed Craig's use of an apostrophe where it wasn't required. :slap:

:yesnod: You create content on the company's time, on the company's resources, the company owns the content you created. :yesnod:

:iagree: That's how it is at my job, although I do keep copies of all my code and scripts in my own offsite cloud account in the event that my computer crashes or I decide to pursue other employment. :seasix:

I think Datawiz is saying that she has the smarts to do this again if things are her current employer work out.

:cert:

Mr Hole 06-07-2019 8:55am

The company that I work for was owned for a couple of years by Schlumbeger. They suck to work for.

JetMechZ16 06-07-2019 9:25am

I bet her co-workers love her.

Absolutely! If she creates it, they own it, but you can be DAMN SURE they'd want her to manage it, cuz they wouldn't have anyone else who could. This is just a vision of her creating a completely new division at a large company, to provide massive streamlining and cost savings. :yesnod:
