Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun

If you were defending your store, and you could only have one firearm, which would it be? Pistol, Rifle, or Shotgun.

assume the Pistol is semi-automatic, 17+1 capacity. say 2 spare magazines on your belt.

assume the Rifle is an AR-15 pattern in .223/5.56, 30 round magazines, again, 2 spare magazines

assume the Shotgun is either pump or semi-auto, you have buckshot, 8+1 capacity, with a 6 shot holder on the left side, and more rounds in your pockets.

which do you choose and why?

LisaJohn 06-06-2020 12:29pm

Pistol because the shotgun hurt my shoulder.

TripleBlack 06-06-2020 12:43pm

Defend from a robbery or rioting looters? Pistol for the former, AR for the latter.

Pistol. If the rifle or shotgun barrel gets grabbed, the struggle is too difficult. You can shoot the pistol up close.

Norm 06-06-2020 1:30pm

Since I always carry, it will be a handgun.

Jeff '79 06-06-2020 1:36pm

Shotgun all day long.
The noise factor alone would deter prospective looters behind the first 5 that didn't make it.

StaticCling 06-06-2020 2:25pm

Shotgun with Buckshot.

Hi cap shotgun with full butt stock. A pistol grip only gun looks cool but recoil can be a bitch.

You are not carrying it concealed get a shotgun. I recommended a Mossie or Remington pump. Having nine shots with the first being 00 buck and then slugs your a match for anything. Also don't fall for that bullshit about shucking the action to load a round from the mag will scare criminals off. You are also starting the party 1 round down that way. Chamber loaded safety on.

FWIW I have two guns in my rural house that fit the above description. Play to win!

OBTW your life and others are at stake practice till you get proficient and then practice enough to keep current!

My Remington is next to my bed, in the corner of my closet , safety on, and ready to rock, just as you described, except for a short barrel. Accuracy optional :Jeff '79:

I live in NYS so my guns are 18 barrels. Yes I know about the Shockwave "any other weapon" as defined by the BATF, but I know NYS is in love of persecuting honest people will outlaw them. Actually surprised they have not done so already.

I escaped NYS in November. I have all of the above, but for house clearing, my Rem with the short barrel is the go to.
It's so good to be out of there.

AR ( collapsed stock & 16" barrel)for me BUT it all depends on what you are most proficient with.

Extra rounds don't matter if you aren't connecting with your target.

markids77 06-06-2020 8:13pm

Robbery defense go with a 12 gauge. Looter defense whatever gives me the most rounds before it goes click. The party's over when the gun runs dry.

I thought this was going to be a 3 gun thread :(

z06psi 06-07-2020 6:07am

5.56 IWI Tavor with a 60 round magazine and a binary trigger.

Or

5.7 PS-90 SBR with a 50 round magazine.

Or

Kriss Vector pistol in 10mm with 32 round magazine

All for close in and high cap magazines.

I am also building a 10" .308. :D

Shotgun. Because shotgun.:seasix:

I carry a pistol daily. At night (and right now) there is always a pistol either on the nightstand or the end table. But if I have to defend the house against more than one? Mossberg 500 12 gauge, 00 buckshot, eighteen inch barrel.

I have legally carried a handgun since the early 1970s. Its close by when were in the house. My wife (backup) is competent and she has a pistol handy also. Also two shotguns as noted in another post and a well stocked safe in the basement. Living rural has its benefits, I have range on my property!

FWIW now a over 50 year NRA life member and for many years a certified instructor. I was one of the first in my county to be certified to teach the pre issue course so that you could get a (in my state) hard to get pistol and carry license. (in my state you need this permit to own a handgun)

Editorial--- with the violent shit thats going on and what will get MUCH worse my advice is to get a couple guns (your choice) lots of ammo and get some GOOD lessons. Without a doubt a VERY serious push for gun control is coming. They will hurt honest people with their bullshit laws but do nothing to the criminals and anarchists out there.

Elmer Fudd had his rifle confiscated and Yosemite Sam’s pistols have been taken away.
