Gmail problem with Android tablet

I have Trek 9020A tablet using Chrome and have a problem with Gmail. With the current Gmail updates, the first email opens all by itself when I open Gmail.

I click the Gmail icon and as it opens, the first/top email is "read" ( no longer bolded as "unread" ) all by itself :wtf:

Any ideas? no, spending 4X as much on Apple shit is NOT an option

With the tablet gmail app when you open it the top email is displayed(when you're in horizontal mode) and after it loads it becomes marked read... I can't recall it ever being different actually. In vertical mode just a list is displayed so wouldn't be opened nor marked read. Are you using horizontal or vertical on your tablet?

Horizontal view. When I uninstall the latest updates, it works as it did originally.

Beats me, you were probably running a very old version on that tablet I'd say.

recent posts may hang out up top, if clicked on they may be seen as viewed. ?The others will drop to the bottom of the screen.

I don't click on the top one and it automatically opens. If I were to delete that one, the next in line opens by itself :issues:

If that is the case go back to original. You have to be running some old stuff.

Don't delete, it should fall into read and will show back up below all the new chit that doesn't classify as read. Delete a bad one or two then scroll down it should be there.

Just need to figure out how to turn off automatic updates for Gmail. I'm a machinist, not an IT guy :willy:

You have to turn updates off in the play store app itself under settings, it doesn't allow just one to be turned off IIRC.

I never leave auto updates on as it's screwed me more than a few times breaking something. Having to sideload an older version that works gets old.

You are correct in my experience. Worst case I will ask my wife tomorrow afternoon. :seasix: She is pretty good at this stuff. :seasix:

My Gmail would delete everything after I opened it. Lost some needed e-mails.

Don't worry about it; after all its not like Google collects and archives stuff like that...
They are simply automating the process is all.
They'll never share or sell the info though.
