Much better idea :yesnod:

If she does press you forward with this, make sure it can be converted to a "real" use in a few years when he leaves for college/moves out.

:iagree: I'd rather extend the driveway, or plan a kick ass outdoor living space with the slab, for when it's done as a bball court.

You can pick up a decent driveway hoop at Dicks for under $500

we have that, but its in the front of the house the hoop cost more than that, but he rather not deal with car traffic, the side yard will be perfect but !!!!!!!

Put plumbing and power in the slab :yesnod: when its time to repurpose, instant outdoor kitchen and entertaining area.

Side yard. I'd rather talk side boob. A decent set of those can cost $15k as well.

Oh my! $15k as in $15,000.00? That's a huge chunk of change. Is there a chance of him being recruited and offered a basketball scholarship for college and then drafted by the NBA?

My BIL and SIL spent untold amounts of money and time on softball with their 3 daughters. They built an indoor batting cage, travel ball, etc. Oldest daughter went to an SEC college on full softball scholarship, graduated and now she works for her dad's company. Middle daughter had a full scholarship to same college as her sister, got hurt during practice, came home after one semester, did an apprenticeship for cosmetology, makes good money as an award winning hairdresser. Youngest daughter had a scholarship to another SEC college, she and her mom didn't think she got enough playing time so she transferred to a smaller college her senior year, petitioned the ncaa to play, and played a little her senior year. She does pitching lessons, lives in a trailer on her parents property and has no plans or ambition for a real job.

the wife sees the side yard as being of no use, but i tell her the side yard looks great with just grass, she doesnt see it that way
heres a pic of the side yard

Cybercowboy 06-10-2013 8:53am

Is you son black? If so, build the basketball court. If not, why bother?

:leaving:

mikeg826 06-10-2013 8:58am

we had a dull side yard like yours, nothing but grass - the wife re designed it and put in the attached, with the landscaping and all. -

I'd go with something the whole family can use, and can be multi-purposed.
