[Music]Is there anything better than Motown?
I mean, seriously. We broke the mold with that one.

I would suggest there's not much worse, other than rap of course.

Motown is the best.
I suggest the Funk Brothers movie "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". It's old and many have passed since it was made, but it's a great documentary. |

Funny but when I was young I didn't like Motown. Now that I am older I like it.:cert:

Is Motown still alive today or has it transformed to rap over time?
|
Yes

I have the CD and DVD of that, love it. Play the CD quite often in the "clubroom", and downloaded on the thumb drive. :seasix: |
Anything better? Possibly not but there's a lot that is just as fine. I suspect there are members here who love Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Chamber music, bluegrass, Elvis, The Boss, Journey, Pink Floyd, Aretha, Brubeck, etcetera. I even bet there are some who revere Slayer, Megadeth and even the Beastie Boys. Sex Pistols. Madonna.
Tastes vary with personalities and there's bandwidth for everybody, including Jetmech. Just don't try and tell me ABBA is one of the greatest sounds evar. NOT.:leaving: |
Well, Motown is the soundtrack of my early teen years. The first album I ever bought was by the Temptations. This was also the time of my life that I was being bussed into the city schools and making friends and teammates with blacks for the first time. Up to that point, they were people who all looked alike to me and were more curiosity than anything else. I’ve come a long way since then. But hearing some of those old songs really makes me nostalgic for the early 70s and my friends of long ago. I’m still friends of sorts with one guy from those days. I found him decades later on FB and discovered that he and I had spent time on the same navy ship, albeit not at the same time. It would have blown my mind to find out the command master chief was a friend whom I had not seen in 25 years. We could have had some fun together in some of those ports.

Not my generation. But I was born and raised in the Detroit area, so Motown runs deep. :yesnod: |

St. Clair Shores. |
That kind of music makes me feel dirty, and not in a good way.

While they never reached the Motown level IMO, Stax and Chess were awfully strong. |
