The jury assigned to the case of accused Special Warfare Chief Edward Gallagher has found the decorated Navy SEAL not guilty of murder and attempted murder after a tumultuous trial that included bombshell revelations and twists.

The verdict was reached by the five Marines and two sailors on Tuesday after the prosecution and defense made their closing arguments the day before.

Gallagher, 40, was accused of stabbing an injured teenage ISIS fighter to death and of shooting at civilians during a deployment to Iraq in 2017. Seven members of Gallagher’s own platoon leveled the accusations against him, describing him as a reckless murderer who failed to distinguish between civilians and the enemy.

With a verdict of not guilty, Gallagher will no longer need a pardon from Trump, who had previously stated he would wait until the trials were over in the cases the White House was reviewing before rendering a decision. With Gallagher’s case over, attention will likely turn to the case of Army. Maj. Mathew Golsteyn, who plead not guilty last week to a charge of premeditated murder for the killing of a suspected Taliban bomb-maker.

The jury found him guilty of taking a selfie with a dead terrorist. Really? Is this what it's come to? Criminalizing taking pictures? Bullshit, but at least he's a free man. Trump should pardon him immediately so he can resume his life.

That is the verdict that should be. War is war.

True, but the PC crowd wants to pretend it is some kind of neighborhood party or something. That man better damn well get his retirement at his full pay grade, and yeah, so what that he took pictures with a corpse....

I'm sure he's not the first soldier to take a picture of/with a corpse, and won't be the last.

Prosecuting a Navy Seal for killing an enemy combatant. Isn't that his ****ing job? Kangaroo Court bullshit.

Glad he can move on with his life. :USA:

Kind of surprised his own teammates turned him in though.

The picture of him with the corpse included all the other members of his team. If they punish him for it then they need to bring charges on the other members of that team.

According to what has been said, he was too hard on them. They must be a bunch of borderline snowflakes.

You're referring to the to the other members of the SEAL team, right?

Edward Gallagher was sentence as follows;

reduction in rank from E-7 to E-6

two months pay

4 months jail time waived since he served 6 months in jail waiting trial

He plans to retire.

"Earlier, Gallagher addressed the jury that had acquitted him Tuesday of murder, attempted murder and other counts stemming from an incident during a 2017 deployment to Iraq. "I put a black eye on the two communities that I love — the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy — specifically the SEAL community," he said."
