You may know him as the "God of Thunder"....

...and rock and roll

Nice little meet and greet, about 30 people there. Gene was very accommodating, and answered questions and played a little music for an hour or so. Nice guy, very conservative and thankful for what this country has done for him. Great, dry sense of humor.

He told some interesting stories of how he and Paul write songs. It was pretty neat. Very talented guy.

How did you get to a ~30 people meet and greet with a big time Rock-N-Roll dude?

pgawit 05-01-2018 6:02pm

A (well-heeled) friend of mine donated some $ to a charity Gene is associated with, not because of Gene, but because he wanted to support the charity.

Gene called him a few months ago to thank him for the donation, and said he wanted to come in and do this for him.

I'm guessing it was a sizable donation.

As a young guitarist in 1979, their music and style was a big influence.

pgawit 05-01-2018 6:06pm

According to Gene, the Beatles were a huge influence on him. He taught himself to play guitar after seeing them on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Sea Six 05-01-2018 6:09pm

I took about 6 actual formal lessons, basically learning how to hold it, tune it, which fingers are used and how to read chord charts.

I took the rest of my education upon myself. With a little help from the Young Brothers, Kiss, Def Leppard, etc.
