Who likes pie? Step on in :-)

Saw this made on The Katie Brown Workshop show on PBS. I googled the recipe and found that she made it differently from the recipe. She messed up. I followed the recipe and it's great. I brought it into work for co-workers to taste and this one guy was just moaning with happiness....had us all cracking up. It's going to be my Thanksgiving pie from now on!

Makes one 10" deep dish pie, serves 12

I used a 9" frozen deep dish pie crust that I kept frozen till I filled it. I spooned in the top layer because it's a bit too much for a 9" pie. Next time I'll cut the corn syrup back to 3/4 cup.

Bottom layer:

1 pkg. cream cheese, room temp
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg

Top layer:

3 eggs
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup dark corn syrup
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup chopped pecans
(or 2 cups chopped pecans)

Preheat oven to 350*

Combine cheese, 1/4 cup sugar, vanilla and salt and mix by hand till smooth. Add 1 egg and mix by hand till smooth again.

In separate bowl, mix 3 eggs, 1/2 cup sugar, vanilla corn syrup and nuts.

Spread cheese mixture on the bottom of the pie crust.
Spoon nut mixture on top

Bake 40 minutes on center rack. Don't let the nuts get too dark. I should have pulled mine out 3-4 minutes before I did. The nuts almost burned. The pie comes out really puffy, but levels out when cool.

Yes....but the cheese cake part is a bit too sweet for me. I'm going to cut back a bit on the sugar.

I also need to edit the recipe to read light brown sugar. I'm sure you could use one or the other because the recipe didn't specify, but I used light brown sugar for both the top and the bottom.

Looks great :seasix: Maybe some day I'll have enough time to make my own crust. So did you eat it all or did you leave some for Mrs. DAB after she was so nice to make it for you.:D

she commented on your pic, liked your crust better...now i can tell her yours was store bought. she made hers from a box mix. baked the crust first, let cool, then prepared and baked the filling.

I had to work all week. I thought of baking it first also, but again, not enough time. I need to get a fun large pie dish.
