She looks like she's about 16. By the time she's 40, they will be pointing straight down.

Hoepfully there are still places in Canada that have avoid the trudeau socialist master plan,,, not sure how he gets his supports, as most Canadians I know despise that mini-me weasel.

I have always looked at the latest census data before buying property. Find out where the rich folk live in the county, then but something in that area affordable. For some odd reason rich folk don't tolerate crime in their 'hoods.

I learned after I bought my second house "you buy your neighbors'.

The better the neighborhood, the better class of people. Except for the SF Bay area and Los Angeles....Lots of folks with wealth that are pieces of shit and acti like it.

Don't move back snide. Trudeau is running the country. Canada is fk'ed up. You can't enjoy Canmore or Banff. Go to Florida they have a Republican Gov. or Texas the gas is cheap. :yesnod:

back in 2007 Linda and I took a long driving vacation, to see some sights, visit some family, and check out some possible places for later retirement. we spent a week in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, a few days in Cheyenne, WY.

we knew we wanted to move to the mountain west, but wanted to get a feel for those places.

ABQ - too crowded, not enough mountain flavor. Cheyenne - too flat.

so we ended up here in Santa Fe. we hadn't checked out this end of the area, but a few years later i came out to look for a house, we had narrowed things down by searching online ahead of time, and found the place i'm at now.

it wasn't perfect, needed a shitload of work and money into it, and we spent about 8 years fixing things up, one room at a time.

Santa Fe would be one of my choices. Love that country. Love the area around Durango CO as well, but CO has turned into a liberal shithole.

I could live there. :yesnod:

I would love to move back to the Canadian Rockies, or Vancouver, but you're right. Canada may be lost already. :sadangel:

2022 Comparing Memphis, TN vs. Los Angeles, CA

2022 Compare Crime Rates:
Memphis, TN vs Los Angeles, CA

Memphis, TN .........Los Angeles, CA United States
Violent Crime 85.7..... 29.1.... .......22.7
Property Crime 81.1 ....35.1 ...........35.4

I could never live in Tennessee, their crime rate is 3X has high as California

See what Paint Something With A Broad Brush is Carlton?

Memphis sucks, and not just with crime. The weather sucks too. And no mountains.

Fresno CA. Never snows. In fact, it's rather warm. 45 minutes or less to the mountains. An hour to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, about 90 minutes from Yosemite. I can see the Sierras running errands around town.

Cheap housing (for CA) and lots, and lots of delicious Mexican food.

Also a large Armenian culture and a large car culture.

Family values and education are stand-outs as well.

Two drawbacks: Oppressive summer heat for weeks on end and Storytellerstealth doesn't approve of it...so if you want to hang out with him (and who wouldn't?) you'll have to drive over to Marin County.

Pass on oppressive heat. I lived in Macon, Georgia. If I have to put up with that kind of heat, I need to have my friends near. btw, southern Indiana gas prices suck. $1 higher per gallon than across the river in Kentucky.

We own a home approx. 2,200' up in the N GA mountains. Lower elevation, compared to out West, but still a nice view.

Pros:

- Beautiful scenery
- Solitude
- No annoying neighbors
- Private gun range :)

Cons:

- Higher utility costs
- At least 20-25 minutes from any stores or restaurants
- Well water required ( cost $10K for that alone )
- Higher taxes considering the lower tax base in the area
- Gravel road

It just depends what's important to you, lifestyle-wise.

Maybe a place like that with a mountain spring?

Google Ellijay, GA

I know Ellijay. Beautiful area. My biggest concern with being just north of Atlanta is all the traffic.

carlton_fritz 09-30-2022 7:03pm

I have always wanted to see the northern lights.

Ruining, not running.

carlton_fritz 09-30-2022 7:07pm

That is one of the areas I was wondering about. There and southern Idaho. :cert:

It's a pretty old pic. She could be pushing 40 now.
